OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Men's Tennis begins its 2020 spring campaign Wednesday, welcoming North Alabama for a pair of matches in the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center, located along Manning Way. The first match is slated for a 3 p.m. first serve, with the second to follow at the conclusion of the first.

THE YOUNG REBELS
Five of the eight Rebels on the Ole Miss roster classify as freshmen or sophomores, but boast over 30 wins in fall action, led by sophomore Jan Soren Hain's 10 victories and followed closely by classmate Simon Junk's seven. The rookie duo of freshmen Lukas Engelhardt and Nikola Slavic proved ready this past fall, collecting a 4-1 ledger in doubles play. Also providing depth is sophomore Sebastian Rios, who turned in five wins on the fall and went a perfect 5-0 in dual matches last spring.

HOLDING DOWN THE COURT
The veterans of the 2020 squad bring experience to the group, led by senior Tim Sandkaulen and joined by juniors Finn Reynolds and Cotter Wilson.

Sandkaulen, a two-time NCAA Tournament participant and two-time All-SEC selection, enters the spring campaign with a No. 35 ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) after spending all fall ranked No. 25.

Reynolds returns to Oxford after sitting out the fall season as he returned from injury, but can be remembered for his clinch over No. 4 Stanford in the NCAA Second Round as a freshman.

Wilson boasted 25 wins last season, including 14 at doubles, including 10 in dual matches.

THE 2020 SLATE STARTS HOT
The Rebels will face at least 13 teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament a year ago, including nine in the SEC. Ole Miss will get its first test during the ITA Kickoff Weekend in late January, facing No. 13 Illinois. The Rebels could also face No. 17 Michigan that weekend, and will meet No. 8 TCU before beginning conference play at Arkansas to begin March.

HAPPY FALL, YA'LL
Sandkaulen, Hain, and Engelhardt and Slavic all took home tournament titles as part of the Rebels' fall tournament schedule. Sandkaulen was the victor of the prestigious John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic, while Hain claimed a singles title at the CCB Collegiate Invitational in Birmingham. At that same event, the freshmen duo snagged a doubles title.

Sandkaulen also qualified for the ITA Fall Nationals in Newport Beach, Calif., in early November.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
North Alabama picked up just three wins last spring, and begins its 2020 campaign with an 0-2 ledger after dropping back-to-back contests to Auburn 1-6, 0-4. The lone win for the Lions was from sophomore Cian Maguire.
