Six Rebels Look to Advance with Matches Set for Oct. 17-22

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss Women's Tennis team sets their sights on more exciting and challenging matches Oct. 17-22 as the squad travels to the ITA Southern Regional Championships in Baton Rouge, La.
 
On the line is a chance to play in the Oracle ITA Fall Championships.
 
Top student-athletes from Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana programs will look to advance in singles and doubles matches on the LSU campus. Results and bracket updates will be available on the tournament central link provided and can be tracked by following @OleMissWTennis on Twitter during the event.
 
Singles is best two-of-three sets with a 10-point breaker for the third set. The Qualifying Draw will begin on Thursday with eight competitors earning the right to compete in the 64-person Main Draw beginning on Friday.
 
Doubles is an eight game pro set until the semifinals and final, which is two out of three sets with a 10-point breaker for the third. Qualifying will also begin on Thursday with a 32-team Main Draw starting on Friday.
 
Freshman Grace Anne Jones gets play underway for the Rebels in Qualifying. She will look to win two matches on Thursday to earn a spot in the Main bracket. Jones faces Carlotta Romito of McNeese State at 10:30 a.m. CT. The winner will then face idle Dora Szcygielska of Northwestern State at 1 p.m.
 
Five Rebels have already solidified placement in Friday's Main Draw. These matches are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. through 12 p.m. Fellow rookie Isolde de Jong challenges host LSU's Luba Vasilyuk while senior Alexa Bortles faces Lauren Gish of Tulane.
 
The remaining three Rebels hold top-16 seedings. No. 3 Sabina Machalova, who is also No. 56 in the ITA ranks, readies for Taylor Russo of Auburn. No. 10 Tereza Janatova battles Cindy Oest of Samford, and No. 12 Anna Vrbenska awaits a top-eight qualifier.  
 
Doubles begin Friday's festivities at 9 a.m. Machalova and Bortles, who possess a No. 17 doubles plaudit, enter as the top seed. They are set to face Tulane's Lauren Gish and Daniela La Fuente. Janatova and Vrbenska team up against Mississippi State's Sara Lizariturry and Meredith Robets as well.
 
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players from across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
