Postgame Quotes vs. Texas A&M
10/19/2019 | Football
Texas A&M 24, Ole Miss 17
OLE MISS HEAD COACH MATT LUKE |
"There's a lot of hurt guys in that locker room. A lot went into that game. I thought the defense especially played their guts out. We just came up short. We were a little bit out of sync on offense, had several opportunities. The defense played their guts out and gave us a chance to win. We just came up short."
On halftime talk:
"We had some big plays in the first half. We over threw some plays, we had chances all over the place to make big plays. We just didn't do it. We have to go into this open date and look at it. We have to go get better and stick together. I'm grateful for the fan support. Rebel Nation really showed up. It was a great atmosphere and our defense really fed off of it."
On the role of injuries:
"We had some injuries. Ealy went out, Ben and Eli. Of course, Ben couldn't go back out, but Eli came back in to play some. This was a physical game, capped of eight straight games. We have to use this open date to get well and we have to finish November strong."
On the scoop and score:
"It certainly didn't help (momentum wise). We came out and had a great drive to start the second half. Punched one in. Took the lead and had a chance to go make it a two-score game and it didn't happen. They made a play and we didn't."
On finding a rhythm:
"I think you have to get into a rhythm, but there were also some plays we left out there to be made. A little bit here or there, but the kids who competed fought their guts out."
On the open date:
"We've got to use this extra time to get healthy. We've got to look at ourselves some and then move on to Auburn."
OLE MISS LINEBACKER LAKIA HENRY |
"Yes sir. There is frustration but we just have to work better as a team. Continue to build on a good performance, but we have to do better so they don't score any points."
On how to improve:
"Watching more film, working harder, playing harder. Believing in each other, even with the highs and lows, we still push through."
On the message from the coaches:
"Staying together as team because we have our back. We just have to stay together."
On the mood in locker room:
"It's pretty down. That's one we should have taken away from them. It is kind of hard, but we are going to build on it as a team and get better."
OLE MISS DEFENSIVE LINEMAN SAM WILLIAMS |
"Well, it's a team effort. Defense was asked a lot but I wouldn't put it all on the defense. It's on everybody so I believe we lost as a team and we'll get better as a team."
On Kellen Mond:
"The challenge is getting back there fast because he is fast. He'll release it fast, he'll throw it, and run it."
On his mindset:
"My parents still struggle so I have to bring them out there. I'm the last hope, so everybody at home, they need me."
On what it means to him to be here:
"It's a blessing. It's crazy. I look at how many people have been through what I've been through and how many people have actually made it to an SEC school. I actually have a story to tell, and I use that as motivation on the field and off the field.
On the open week:
"I believe everybody is going to get healthy. And with everyone coming back, we should be full force going into Auburn."
On Auburn:
"That's right down the street, it's going to be home, a lot of family there."
TEXAS A&M HEAD COACH JIMBO FISHER |
"I commend Ole Miss for playing a very tough, hard fought football game. Our kids played hard and got a real win. When we go back, we will look at the film, make corrections and then move on."
On the fumbled snap:
"This game had a little bit everything and I mean, both sides were back and forth. You have to learn to win on your bad days when you're not playing your best, you got to find a way to come on top. And I give our kids credit that the perseverance to make the plays when they had to make them and do that."
On the offensive line:
"We found some good running lanes and we had some nice runs. We gave up a couple protections. I have to see why, but I still think we're getting better."
On depth:
"You could never have enough depth and the quality of your guys. That's why your freshman and those young guys, they got to keep development in the year goes on. You need those bodies to be able to play quality football and quality minutes."
On his best two defensive players:
"They have been really good. I mean, that's why I say that's what's your best player supposed to do. That's their job to do."
TEXAS A&M WIDE RECEIVER JHAMON AUSBON |
"We drove the ball fine. Just didn't execute well enough on offense. Our numbers were fine, we just couldn't put it in. We couldn't stop shooting ourselves in the foot when time came to make plays. The defense played well, we just have to find a way to lock in and score points when it counts."
On Kellen Mond:
"He's tough, man. He wants the ball when it's third down. Even though we had some ups and downs in the game, he took it upon himself and made some plays when the time came."
On walking out with a win:
"At the end of the day, we came to play. It was an SEC road game which is never easy. You can't complain with a win. Obviously, room for improvement but we'll come back and learn from this."
TEXAS A&M LINEBACKER BUDDY JOHNSON |
"It is big for us. That changed momentum. That gave us momentum. We have to cause turnovers to help our team get momentum and that's how we won tonight."
On never quitting:
"One thing with this team and with this defense, we are always talking about never quitting, always fighting, and scratching and clawing. This team understands we have to keep fighting no matter what the situation is no matter what the score is that's something we did big tonight. I'm blessed to be on this team."
TEXAS A&M POSITION NAME |
"It's a great push for us for the rest of the season. Coming to Ole Miss, we create our own energy because Ole Miss is in their home. So, we have to bring our own juice and our own best foot to the table. And that's what we did tonight and we got the win."
On blocking:
"I just try to put myself in a position to make big blocks for my team. Blocking the ball and sack the quarterback. All those little things to get a win like the one we got tonight."
