Rebels Advance to Regional Doubles Semifinal

Anna Vrbensa and Terka Janatova Were Victorious on Sunday
Baton Rouge, La. – The Ole Miss Women's Tennis team pairing of Anna Vrbenska and Tereza Janatova advanced into the ITA Southern Regional Championship Doubles Semifinal with a huge win at the LSU Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The senior pairing squared off with host LSU team Taylor Bridges and Paris Corley. Looking for their third win in as many days, Vrbenska and Janatova continued their streak with an 8-5 victory. The Rebel duo will face Auburn's Taylor Russo and Selin Ovunc in the semifinals Monday at 9 a.m. CT. Live stats and video links will be released in the morning.
Russo and Ovunc took down the No. 14 ITA ranked pair of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine (Mississippi State) on Sunday, 8-4. Vrbenska and Janatova will look to put an Ole Miss doubles team in the ITA Southern Regional Finals for the fourth consecutive season.
In a separate quarterfinal matchup, LSU's Eden Richardson and Nina Geissler defeated the No. 17 team of junior Sabina Machalova and senior Alexa Bortles in a heartbreaking 8-6 match.
Another set of Tigers got the better of the Rebels in singles quarterfinal play. Auburn's Russo won a grueling back-and-forth match against Vrbenska, prevailing 7-6(1), 6-7(1), 6-3. Ovunc bested Ole Miss freshman Isolde de Jong, 7-5, 6-3.
Doubles and singles play continues Monday and Tuesday. The regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
