Trio of Wins Highlight Day 3 for Women's Tennis in Tulsa

The Rebels look to seek two more wins to land in main draw action Wednesday

TULSA, Okla. – A trio of victories highlighted Day 3 of the ITA All-American Championships for Ole Miss Women's Tennis, held at the University of Tulsa at a variety of tennis-specific facilities. 
 
Junior Sabina Machalova was successful in singles action, picking up an opening round win over Marie Mattel from UCF. After dropping the opening set 2-6, Machalova fired back to sweep the second set and even things, triumphing 7-5 in the finale. 
 
She continues through the qualifying draw Tuesday, where she will compete against Claire Reifeis (Nebraska) at noon. Machalova is the fourth-seeded player in the draw and is seeking a position into the singles main draw which begins Wednesday. 
 
The Zlin, Czech Republic native carries a No. 56 ranking nationally and will team up with senior Alexa Bortles on Wednesday in the main doubles draw. The pair boast a No. 17 ranking in the ITA Preseason release. 
 
Looking to join Bortles and Machalova in the doubles draw is the veteran pair of Tereza Janatova and Anna Vrbenska, who picked up two wins with swift decisions at 8-3 and 8-2. 
 
The duo will continue Tuesday, seeking one more win for the possibility of a berth in the main doubles draw. They'll face Penn's Iuliia Bryzgalova and Marija Cunic, who defeated Wyoming and Boise State pairs each by an 8-3 score.
