Janatova and Vrbenska fall 8-5 in qualifying finals

TULSA, Okla. – Wednesday is heating up to be an exciting day on the court for Ole Miss Women's Tennis, as junior Sabina Machalova clinched a berth in the main singles draw after a Tuesday victory at the ITA All-American Championships held at the University of Tulsa.

Machalova made relatively quick work of Claire Reifeis of Nebraska, winning 6-3, 6-2 and earned a berth in main singles draw, which begins Wednesday.

She will face Guilia Pairone of Michigan, who claimed a No. 47 ranking in the first ITA release. Pairone and Machalova, ranked No. 56 in the same rankings, are old foes as the two faced off last February in doubles action at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center. Machalova and her partner were ahead 5-4 when the match was left unfinished.

Machalova and Pairone square off at 10:30 a.m.

She joins senior Alexa Bortles in main draw action for doubles. The two enter the weekend ranked No. 17, and will begin competition against another Top 25 opponent in California's Annie Bright and Jasie Dunk.

Their match is slated for a 3 p.m. first serve.

Looking to join their teammates, the duo of seniors Anna Vrbenska and Tereza Janatova fought valiantly, but fell 5-8 to the Penn pairing of Cunic/Bryzgalova.

RESULTS
S. Machalova def. C. Reifeis (Nebraska); 6-3, 6-2

M. Cunic/I. Bryzgalova (Penn) def. T. Janatova/A. Vrbenska; 8-5
