Rebel Junior Remains Alive in Doubles Competition with Teammate Bortles

TULSA, Okla. – The run for Ole Miss women's tennis junior Sabina Machalova came to an end in the main singles draw at the ITA All-American Championships held on the University of Tulsa campus on Wednesday, but remains alive in doubles.

After picking up a pair of wins in the singles qualifying draw earlier in the week, Machalova squared off in the main bracket with No. 47 ITA ranked Guilia Pairone of Michigan.

Machalova, who possesses a No. 56 ranking, battled hard through a tough 7-6(5) tiebreak to win the first set. Pairone turned the match around, however, with identical 6-2 decisions in sets two and three to advance.

Machalova's run in the singles draw may have ended, but she will continue competing in doubles. She and teammate Alexa Bortles, who are No. 17 as a duo, had their first round doubles match postponed due to rain on Wednesday. Their match with California's Annie Bright and Jasie Dunk is rescheduled for Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. The second round or a consolation bracket match follows at 9:45 a.m. depending on the result.

RESULTS
G. Pairone (Michigan) vs. S. Machalova, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-2
