Kellum, Miller to be Honored by NFF at LSU Game

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will honor David Kellum of Oxford, Mississippi, with its Contribution to Amateur Football Award and Romaro Miller of Olive Branch, Mississippi, with the Distinguished American Award here Saturday, Nov. 16 when the Rebels host the LSU Tigers.
Kickoff for the ESPN telecast is set for 6 p.m. at Vaught‑Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.
The Contribution to Amateur Football Award is given by the Ole Miss Chapter in honor of those who have made numerous contributions to the college athletics world through service to their fellow man, while the Distinguished American Award is presented to individuals who have set the standards for excellence in a life of service to the community.
"We are pleased to honor David Kellum and Romaro Miller for their contributions to Ole Miss Athletics," said Richard Noble of Indianola, Mississippi, president of the Ole Miss Chapter. "They are most deserving of this recognition, and having an on-campus salute provides an excellent opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for all they have done for Ole Miss."
"The Voice of the Rebels," Kellum is in his 30th season handling the radio play-by-play call for Ole Miss football. He also serves as the play-by-play announcer for both Ole Miss basketball and baseball. Kellum has been honored eight times as Mississippi Sportscaster of the Year and in 2006 received the "Lindsey Nelson Outstanding Sportscaster Award" from the All-America Football Foundation.
Kellum's first link with Ole Miss Athletics was in 1978. As a 19-year-old freshman, he began broadcasting Rebel baseball, and has handled the baseball play-by-play for the past 41 seasons. Early in his career, Kellum also did radio play-by-play for the Ole Miss women's basketball games.
Kellum, who earned his B.A degree in Radio and Television from the University of Mississippi in 1980, hosts Ole Miss' weekly radio shows for men's basketball and football. In addition to hosting the radio shows, Kellum has been the master of ceremonies for countless Ole Miss events, both athletically and academically.
A 2003 graduate of the University of Mississippi with a B.A degree in Journalism, Miller was selected to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He compiled an outstanding career as a quarterback for the Rebels, while starting his final three years and leading Ole Miss to three post-season bowl games, including Independence Bowl wins over Texas Tech and Oklahoma.
During his Ole Miss career, Miller completed 497 of 902 passes for 6,311 yards and 43 touchdowns as he established new school career records for passing yards, TD passes, 200-yard passing games and 250-yard passing games. He earned second team All-SEC honors his senior season in 2000 when he was named to the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team and the SEC Community Service Team, while also being selected one of the permanent Ole Miss team captains.
A State Farm Insurance Agent in Olive Branch, Miller remains active in the community and is a member of the Olive Branch and Southaven Chambers of Commerce, the Desoto County Rebel Club and the Memphis Rebel Club. He is also a former member of the Ole Miss M-Club Alumni Board of Directors.
