Fourth Career Cross Country South Region Honor for Vanhoy

NEW ORLEANS – Ole Miss cross country associate head coach Ryan Vanhoy has been named the USTFCCCA South Region Men's Coach of the Year, the association announced Tuesday.

Under Vanhoy's direction in 2019, the Rebel men reached their highest national ranking in program history (No. 8) before repeating as both the SEC and NCAA South Region champions. At the SEC meet, the Ole Miss men defended their title in dominant fashion, recording the largest margin of victory in the SEC since 2015 with a 55-point win over Alabama. The Rebels followed that up with a consistent team effort at the South Regional meet, winning their fourth title in the last six years and punching their sixth consecutive ticket to the NCAA Championships.

In total on the men's side this year, Vanhoy mentored five All-SEC runners (three First-Team, two Second-Team), as well as two SEC All-Freshman runners. This is the fourth time that Vanhoy has been honored as the South Region Coach of the Year after earning the men's honor in 2016 and 2018, as well as winning the women's award in 2017 following their first South Region title in program history.

This coming Saturday, Vanhoy and both the Rebel men's and women's teams will head to Indiana State's LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course for the NCAA Championships – the fourth consecutive season that both teams have qualified. Ole Miss is one of just seven schools nationally to have sent both teams in each of the last four years, joining Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, NC State, Oregon and Stanford.

Competition will begin with the women's championship 6K race at 10:15 a.m. CT, followed by the men's championship 10K race at 11:15 a.m. CT.
