Postgame Quotes vs. Auburn

11/2/2019 | Football

Auburn 20, Ole Miss 14

 OLE MISS LINEBACKER JACQUEZ JONES
On the feel in the locker room after such a tough loss:
"It hurts knowing we've been so close multiple times this season, but at the end of the day it's over and it's time to focus on the next game."

On how they're able to keep a strong team mentality:
"We keep it in the locker room. A lot of people outside of the locker room give up on us, but we don't. We believe we have something special at Ole Miss and that's why we come out every week and play the hardest we can."

OLE MISS QUARTERBACK JOHN RHYS PLUMLEE
On the correlation between team struggles on 3rd downs v struggles with passing game:
"It goes back to the little things. If you stay on schedule, instead of 3rd and 6s or 7s they're 3rd and 2s and 3rd and 3s and they're really manageable. All around, if we can fix the little things and do the little things right while capitalizing on opportunities when they're given to us then we'll be a better team."

On his previous knee injury:
"It didn't bother me. It was better. Dr. Luber did a really good job and Mr. Pat had me rehabbing hard. I give them a lot of credit, they did a really great job."

 AUBURN LINEBACKER K.J. BRITT
On the win:
"It was an SEC team. They get all the respect that we get. We knew we were going to get their best. We knew that we were going to get their Super Bowl. We just knew that we were going to have to fight for four quarters. Y'all can say it's goofy, but I'm happy about it."

On defensive performance without two injured starters:
"We're a bunch of fighters, bunch of fighters. We've got people who step up when their name is called. We just wanted to fight. I mean, even though they were down, we couldn't let it affect us. They were really big players who would have had a big impact on the game, but at the same time, we just have to play. That's why people come to Auburn."

 AUBURN QUARTERBACK BO NIX
On his rhythm in the first half:
"I felt like I was in a great rhythm. We called some short passes and low-intermediate that I could feel comfortable with, and they were open. It was just playing catch with my guys. They did the rest. I feel like that really opened up the rest of the offense. We moved the ball great. We just got stuck there at the high red zone, which it happens sometimes."

On D.J. Williams development:
"Obviously, we're both freshmen. We both came in early. I've seen the work that he's put in. I've seen the things that he's had to overcome to get in this situation, and now that he's in this position, he's making the most of it. He's doing a really good job for us. He's breaking tackles. He's catching the ball out of the backfield, and he's doing some really good things. He's just going to get better."

On third down success:
"We kept it manageable on third downs. We didn't get past the sticks any. We were able to follow our plan. We were able to execute a little better. We always have a good plan going into third downs, but it's hard when you're 3rd-and-15, 3rd-and-12, things like that. We were able to manage the chains and get in manageable third downs and complete a few."

 AUBURN WIDE RECEIVER ANTHONY SCHWARTZ
On the end of the game:
"It was too close for comfort, but at the end of the day, we got the win. Now it's on to the next team."

On passing yards:
"I think Bo [Nix] played pretty great. We have confidence in our quarterback, and he has confidence in us. We tell him to throw it, and we'll do the rest."

On passing plays as a receiver:
"We know Ole Miss has a good run defense and passing defensive isn't as great. We tried to attack the weak points. We tried to make sure everyone got the ball – me, Seth [Williams], Sal [Cannella], Ja'varrius [Johnson]."
