Hain and Engelhardt/Slavic Earned Hardware in Birmingham on Sunday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – It was a successful run for the Ole Miss men's tennis team at the CCB Collegiate Invitational as the Rebels ended Sunday taking home two trophies. Sophomore Jan Soren Hain and the freshmen doubles pairing of Lukas Engelhardt and Nikola Slavic earned titles at the Country Club of Birmingham.
Hain continued his dominate performance over the weekend as he faced Louisiana's Jamie Fraser in the White Singles Draw Final. The Rebel sophomore won in convincing fashion, 6-2, 6-1 to win his first individual title. Hain played spectacular tennis over his four tournament victories, dropping just five games in eight totals sets.
Engelhardt and Slavic challenged Daniel Janko and Michal Lusovsky of UAB in the Crimson Doubles Final. The Rebel duo won their third match of the tournament and first doubles title with an 8-3 victory.
Hain continued his momentum alongside junior Cotter Wilson in a doubles consolation draw. They downed Jamie Fraser and Karlo Kajin of Lousiana in a hard-fought tiebreaker, 8-7(4).
Slavic was also victorious in a singles consolation match. He earned his second straight singles win of the weekend by beating Tulane's Tim Ruetzel, 7-5, 6-2.
In other singles consolation action, Kajin outlasted Engelhardt, 6-2, 7-6(2) and Alabama's Sam Fischer defeated Wilson in a heartbreaking back-and-forth match, 5-7, 7-6(6), 7-5.
