Plumlee, Ealy Recognized Following 2019 Campaign

SAN FRANCISCO – Two Rebels earned Freshman All-America accolades from The Athletic on Thursday.

Quarterback John Rhys Plumlee earned first team honors at the all-purpose position, while running back Jerrion Ealy hauled in second team accolades in the same role.

Plumlee finished his freshman campaign with 1,023 rushing yards, a single-season Ole Miss record by a freshman and the fifth-most by any SEC quarterback. Plumlee, who took over the starting quarterback role in Week 5, currently leads the SEC and ranks 11th in the NCAA with 113.7 rushing yards per game.

The true freshman ranks second in the conference in rushing touchdowns (12). Plumlee finished the 2019 season with the school freshman rushing touchdown record (12), as well as his freshman overall TD record (16).

Ealy currently leads the SEC in kick return average, with 24.4 yards per return. He tallied his first career touchdown with a 94-yard kickoff return in Week 3 vs. Southeastern Louisiana. Ealy registered a PFF elusive rating of 145.1, the second-highest by any freshman in the country.

The Walnut Grove, Mississippi, native ranks second in the SEC and No. 5 nationally in all-purpose yardage per game amongst freshmen (100.9 ypg). He rushed for 722 yards in his true freshman campaign, the second-most rushing yards by an Ole Miss freshman in school history.

His six rushing and eight total touchdowns also ranked second on Ole Miss' freshman single season record book. Ealy has already earned freshman All-America honors from The Athletic, PFF, and 247Sports.
