Rebel Punter Recognized for Community Service Efforts

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference has named Ole Miss' Mac Brown to the 2019 Football Community Service Team, the conference announced Wednesday morning.

The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21-league sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.

Brown has helped raise over $75,000 for ALS research with the Awesome Lemonade Stand. He participated in Honduras Volunteer Mission, helping a local orphanage by digging ditches and planting lemon trees. Other community activities include: Sweetheart Ball for residents of senior assisted living facility; Clownfish Fish in which he aided disabled kids with swimming; and Adopt-A-Basket, a Thanksgiving food basket prep and delivery to less fortunate families.

The Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native ranks No. 24 nationally in punting with an average of 44.3 yards per punt. Brown has tallied 12 50-plus yard punts on the year and 17 that have landed inside the 20-yard line. He also has 16 punts go for fair catches this season.

Brown posted a season-high average of 49.5 yards on four punts in the Rebels' SEC opener vs. Arkansas (Sept. 7). Against No. 11 Auburn, Brown tallied eight punts for a 42.6 yards per punt average, including three inside the 20-yard line. He has posted at least one punt greater than 50 yards in seven of Ole Miss' 12 games.
