Rebels finish Eighth at Bruin Wave Invitational
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Ole Miss women's golf team wrapped up play Tuesday at the Bruin Wave Invitational from San Luis Obispo Country Club.
The Rebels finished in eighth place as a team, sitting in front of two ranked teams including the host No. 25 Pepperdine. After back-to-back 307's, Ole Miss shot its best round of the tournament with a final round 16-over 304.
"I'm proud of the way the team fought on the back nine today," head coach Kory Henkes said. "We didn't have our best start and really rallied on the back to finish strong.
"This course is extremely challenging so you have to be diligent to miss shots in the right spot and I think that is what hurt us this week. We look forward to working hard the next few weeks before we head to our next tournament in the Dominican Republic."
Julia Johnson's consistent play earned her a top-25 finish. The sophomore shot a pair of 1-over 73's in the first and third round, and finished tied for 23rd in the toughest field yet this season. A 3-under back nine on the final day pushed her 23 spots up the leaderboard.
Pi-Lillebi Hermansson tied for the low round of the entire tournament with a second round 2-under 70. The junior tied for second in the tournament in birdies with 8 and finished tied for 29th.
The Rebels return to the course March 15-16 for the Tar Heel Classic in Casa De Campo, Dominican Republic.
