Volleyball's Emily Stroup Invited to U.S. National Collegiate Team Tryouts

The junior is the fourth Rebel in program history to earn the invitation
OXFORD, Miss. – After a stellar and record-breaking junior campaign, Ole Miss Volleyball's Emily Stroup has received an elite invitation to the U.S. National Collegiate Team tryouts, held this weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
Stroup will be one of 215 overall athletes competing, and one of 56 outside hitters trying out across the four-day process. She is the fourth Rebel to ever be invited, joining current volunteer coach Nakeyta Clair, a two-time selection and three-time invitee.
Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly, the current U.S. Women's National Team head coach and his staff will direct the entire tryouts. Stroup is one of 17 SEC players invited, seven of them being outsides.
The Fargo, N.D., product is a two-time AVCA All-Region honoree. An All-SEC selection as well, Stroup ranked second in the country in kills this past season, finishing the year with 584. That total broke the single-season record, which she surpassed against No. 12 Florida in mid-October, replacing herself from 2017 (474).
She set a single-match kills program record three times in 2018, first tallying 30 against LSU (10/7), then 31 against No. 25 Tennessee (11/2), and then again against LSU four days later (32, 11/7).
Stroup was second in the league with 15 double-doubles, after leading the conference for most of the season, and was the only player in the SEC to record at least 20 kills and 20 digs in a match, which she did on back-to-back occasions (10/5, Arkansas/ 10/7, LSU). She tallied 12 matches last season with 20 or more kills, and three with 30 or better.
Selections for the U.S. Collegiate National Team will be made by the end of March, with three different opportunities to compete in international competiton.
