Ole Miss falls 4-1 to Florida in first road match of the season
GAINESVILLE, Fla. –The Ole Miss Women's tennis team fell to Florida 4-1 in their conference debut, and first road match of the season, at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Friday.
Junior Tereza Janatova provided the lone Rebel point with a 7-5, 6-0 decision on court five. She improved her dual record to 4-1.
Classmate Anna Vrbenska looked poised to give Ole Miss an opening point after recording a 6-2 win in set one. The session was tightened up and pushed to a third set, but ended unfinished when the Gators clinched.
Courts 1 and 2 were also stretched into three frames. No. 125 Sabina Machalova forced a deciding third set at 7-5, but lost a nailbiter, 6-4 in the finale to No. 12 Ida Jarlskog. Veteran Tea Jandric battled No. 33 McCartney Kessler to three sets with the decision left pending.
Machalova and Jandric were up in doubles action as well before Florida secured the first point with wins on Court 2 and 3.
