Hamilton was one of six to emerge through qualifying for the main draw
ARCADIA, Calif. -- Ole Miss Men's Tennis alum and current volunteer assistant Grey Hamilton impressed this past weeked at the ITF World Tennis Tour's M15 Tournament, held at the Arcadia Tennis Center in California.
Hamilton battled through two qualifying matches to earn a spot in the 32-person main draw, and then proceeded to swing his way into the finals.
"This tournament was a huge step forward for me towards my goals in professional tennis," Hamilton said. "It was only my second of the year due to injury, so I didn't come into it with any expectations. Getting a couple wins in qualifying helped give me some momentum that carried into the main draw, and I was able to play some of my best tennis."
"This result definitely validates how hard I've worked and motivates me to continue doing so. I'm excited for the future and looking forward to my next tournament."
In his first match of Main Draw action, Hamilton took down one-half of the M15 Doubles Champions in Greece's Michail Pervolarakis, rallying back from dropping his opening set 3-6 to advance by identical 6-4, 6-4 decisions. Pervolarakis carries a World ITF singles ranking in the Top 250.
He continued to climb through the draw, downing former University of Miami standout Christian Langmo with relative ease at 6-4, 6-0, and then downed Chile's Gonzalo Lama after another three-set comeback at 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 to reach the semifinals.
Hamilton landed in the finals with a win over Argentina's Alan Kohen (6-3, 7-5). His opponent in the championship, Switzerland's Antoine Bellier, carried a career-high ATP ranking of 399 and has competed for the Swiss in the Davis Cup.
Hamilton lettered for the Rebels for four seasons, qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championship in 2017 with partner and current senior Fabian Fallert. Hamilton and Fallert finished that year ranking No. 23 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings, while he also made the list with current junior Tim Sandkaulen at No. 36 last season.
