Mario Garcia Romo Named SEC Indoor Men’s Freshman Runner of the Year

Garcia Romo is First Rebel to Win the Award Since Sean Tobin in 2014
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field freshman Mario Garcia Romo has been named the SEC Indoor Men's Freshman Runner of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.
Garcia Romo, a native of Salamanca, Spain, ran the leadoff leg of the Rebel men's SEC title winning distance medley relay and was also the top freshman finisher in the 3K in fifth place to earn SEC All-Freshman honors. Garcia Romo is the first Rebel to win the men's freshman runner honor indoors since Sean Tobin did so in 2014. During the cross country season, Garcia Romo also earned First-Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman honors in addition to NCAA All-South Region distinction.
Other Rebels earning honors today include James Burnett (First-Team, DMR), Derek Gutierrez (First-Team, DMR), Waleed Suliman (First-Team, DMR, Mile), Allen Gordon (Second-Team, Long Jump), Clio Ozanne-Jaques (Second-Team, 5K) and Tedreauna Britt (All-Freshman, Shot Put).
