Crystal Allen Named Second-Team All-SEC
3/5/2019 | Women's Basketball
Allen is the First Rebel to Earn All-SEC Since Tia Faleru in 2014-15
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss women's basketball senior Crystal Allen has been named Second-Team All-SEC, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Allen – a fifth-year graduate transfer and native of Fort Worth, Texas – emerged as one of the top scoring threats in the SEC during her lone season at Ole Miss in 2018-19. Allen ended the regular season ranked third in the league in scoring at 18.3 points per game (fourth in SEC play at 18.4 PPG) and as the conference leader in free throw percentage at 82.6. Allen's 549 points this year makes her the first Rebel to eclipse 500 points in a single season since Bianca Thomas scored 670 in 2009-10.
Allen scored in double-digits in 27 of 30 games played this season, scoring at least 20 points in 13 games and passing the 30-point plateau twice – including in the regular season finale vs. Tennessee. Helping in her effort atop the SEC's free throw shooting standings was a mystifying streak from the charity stripe from Jan. 10 to Feb. 3, during which she hit 47 consecutive free throws – which was the longest active streak in the NCAA at the time. From Dec. 8 until Feb. 3, Allen did not miss multiple free throws, going 63-of-69 in that stretch (.913).
With her honors today, Allen becomes the first Rebel to earn All-SEC honors since Tia Faleru was named First-Team All-SEC in 2014-15.
Ole Miss opens the SEC Tournament this Wednesday (March 6) against Florida. Tipoff is slated to 10 a.m. CT on SEC Network.
