Hengst Earned SEC Honors for the First Time
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field freshman Dalton Hengst was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week following his impressive performance in the 1500-meter at the Joe Walker Invite, the conference announced Tuesday.
Hengst ran a 15-second PR in the 1500-meter at 3:43.92 on his way to a fourth-place finish at the Joe Walker Invite on Friday night. This time currently ranks as the fastest in the NCAA among freshmen, in addition to placing him No. 8 in school history, No. 8 in the NCAA East Region and No. 15 in the NCAA overall.
Hengst is an also instrumental member of the Rebels' NCAA leading 1500-meter squad alongside fellow underclassmen Waleed Suliman (No. 2 NCAA, 3:40.49), Cade Bethmann (No. 3 NCAA, 3:41.65) and Mario Garcia Romo (NCAA No. 24, 3:44.69). The quartet averages a time of 3:42.69, which is almost a full second ahead of No. 2 Colorado (3:43.56).
The Rebels return to action this week when they split squad for both the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invite in southern California, and for the War Eagle Invite at Auburn.
