Ole Miss Women’s Golf Will Face Florida in Quarterfinal Matchup
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 35 Ole Miss women's golf team shot a final round 16-over 304 Friday, at the SEC Championship, to finish stroke play eighth as a team, claiming the final spot in qualifying for the match play portion of the conference championship.

Ole Miss will face off against No. 1 seed Florida in the quarterfinals Saturday morning in Birmingham, Alabama.

"We got off to another hot start again today and had a really solid front nine," head coach Kory Henkes said. "I was really proud of them for battling out there on the back. We had to step it up a little bit on the back towards the end.

Julia Johnson finished with a final round, 1-over 73, on Friday and earned runner-up individual honors with a 54-hole score of 214 (69-72-73).

Johnson's second place finish is the highest by a Rebel golfer in conference championship history. Her 54-hole total of 69-72-73—214 is the second lowest in program history behind Sara Grantham, who shot a 211 in 2010.

The sophomore had the top score for the Rebels each stroke play round. Johnson followed a familiar formula for success, playing the par 5s 4-under throughout the week and leading the team in birdies with ten.

"Julia had a great tournament," Henkes said. "She made bogey on three of the toughest holes out there, but she's got nothing to be disappointed about. She finished top-5 against a really strong field, which is fantastic because she's only a sophomore. The best is yet to come for Julia and we're really proud of her."

Ellen Hutchinson-Kay put together a strong showing in her conference championship debut, finishing 21st individually (73-71-77—221) after a final round 5-over 77. The freshman led the team in pars with 39 and played the par 5s at 2-under.

Sophomore Conner Beth Ball finished with a final round 4-over 76 to tie for 41st overall. Ball played the par-5s at 1-under throughout the week.

Macy Somoskey finished tied for 57th after a final round 6-over 78. The freshman was second on the team in pars with 37 in 54 holes. Kennedy Swann finished tied for 63rd after a final round 7-over 79.

The Rebels and Gators will tee off Saturday morning at 7:50 a.m. The winner will move on to the semifinals to be held later that afternoon.

"With match play tomorrow, it totally changes the way you think around the golf course," Henkes said. "You play the opponent, not the course. Anything can happen in match play. We're just going to go out there, give it our best, and hope to come out on top tomorrow."
