Annual Spring Game Will Kick Off at 3 p.m. on SEC Network
OXFORD, Miss. – Fans can get an early glimpse of the 2019 Ole Miss football team Saturday at the Nissan Grove Bowl.
The Nissan Grove Bowl will serve as the finale of the Rebels' spring drills, which began on Feb. 26. Admission is free for the Rebels' annual spring game, which will kick off at 3 p.m. CT at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. It will also be televised by SEC Network with a broadcast team of Tom Hart, Cole Cubelic and Olivia Dekker.
The Nissan Grove Bowl format will feature the Ole Miss offense (wearing blue) against the defense (wearing red). The defense will be spotted a 27-0 lead as the offense tries to score enough to overtake them. The defense may increase its point total through turnovers that lead directly to scores, whether by returns for touchdowns (6 points + PAT) or returns into field goal range (3 points if FG made). In the latter, the field goal will be kicked on the next play after the return.
Ole Miss baseball will host Florida for a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon. There will be an extended break of approximately an hour between games to permit fans to walk over to the spring football game.
The No. 18 Rebels and No. 16 Gators will still open their three-game series at 6:30 p.m. Friday night. Saturday's game has been moved up from 7 p.m. to noon CT, while the series finale, originally set for Sunday at 1:30 p.m., will now be played Saturday afternoon.
Other events of Nissan Grove Bowl Weekend include the annual Chucky Mullins Courage Award Ceremony, which will be a luncheon on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Grill at 1810 at the Manning Center. Johnny Dixon will serve as the featured former winner for the sold out event.
In addition, the Rebel men's tennis team will be in action Sunday with a doubleheader against Arkansas-Pine Bluff beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is free at the Palmer/Salloum Center.
Matt Luke heads into his third year at the helm of the Ole Miss football program looking to ride the momentum of back-to-back top 25 recruiting classes and a change at the coordinator position on both sides of the ball.
Mike MacIntyre, a two-time national coach of the year and coaching veteran with nearly three decades of experience, will take over the reigns as the Rebels' defensive coordinator while Rich Rodriguez, considered one of the top offensive minds in college football, will serve as Ole Miss' offensive coordinator.
Ole Miss is the only team in the country to have three coaches with Power 5 head coaching experience.
Luke and the Rebels return a total of 71 lettermen and 11 position starters in 2019. A large portion of Ole Miss' experience is on the defensive side of the ball as the Rebels return 37 letterwinners and eight starters from the 2018 Landshark defense.
