Men’s Golf Earns Third Straight NCAA Regional Berth
5/1/2019 | Men's Golf
Rebels Will Compete at the Stanford Regional, May 13-15
OXFORD, Miss. – For the third consecutive season and the 12th time in program history, the Ole Miss men's golf team has earned a bid to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships. The Rebels will tee it up against 12 other teams in the Stanford Regional at the Stanford University Golf Course as the No. 9 seed.
"We're excited to return to the NCAA Tournament. This team has had a lot thrown at them throughout the course of the season, and they have responded each and every time," head coach Chris Malloy said. "Many people counted our group out, and here we are – still standing with as clean of a slate as anyone else in the country. Now it's time to continue to build on the momentum that we have created over the last two events and make a run towards a national championship."
Ole Miss advances to an NCAA Regional for the fourth time in five seasons under Malloy's guidance. The Rebels earned an at-large bid that featured five top-five finishes, including a runner-up showing at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship. In the latest national polls, Ole Miss is No. 51 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and 54th in Golfstat's team rankings. The only other time the Rebel golfers have appeared in a regional in California was during Malloy's first season (2015), teeing it up in Santa Fe at The Farm Golf Club.
The entire field for the NCAA Championships was revealed during a live selection show on Golf Channel, which will broadcast the national championship at the end of the month. Eighty-one teams and 45 individuals were split up among six regional sites: Stanford, California; Simpsonville, Kentucky; Athens, Georgia; Austin, Texas; Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; Pullman, Washington.
Joining the Rebels in California will be the top-seeded Arizona State, Stanford, LSU, NC State, North Carolina, South Florida, Kansas, Virginia, Georgia Southern, UNC Greensboro, Augusta and Denver.
In order to get back to the NCAA Championships, the Rebels will need to finish in the top five at the Stanford Regional. The 2019 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships will be held at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas (May 24-29).
