Jandric Dubbed Most Improved Senior, Machalova Named Player to Watch

TEMPE, Ariz. – Ole Miss Women's Tennis put the finishing touch on their 2019 spring campaign Saturday, with two Rebels earning ITA Regional Awards, the organization announced Saturday morning. Veteran Tea Jandric was dubbed the Southern Region's Most Improved Senior, while sophomore Sabina Machalova was honored as the upcoming seasons' Player to Watch.

Jandric was named to the All-SEC Second Team for the second consecutive season, boasting a 21-8 record, going 11-2 in dual matches and 7-1 in the league. The Zagreb, Croatia, product earned a 4-1 record over ranked opposition this spring, including a victory over the fourth-ranked player in the country, First-Team Selection Fernanda Contreras (Vanderbilt) in early May.

Jandric's only loss in SEC play came against Tennessee, splitting up win streaks of six and five, respectively. This past October, Jandric was crowned the ITA Southern Regional Runner-Up, falling in three sets to reigning National Doubles Champion and another First-Team honoree in Eden Richardson (LSU).

Jandric has spent time in the ITA Singles Rankings this fall and rose to No. 79 this spring after three straight ranked victories.

She is the second consecutive Rebel to earn the title, where last spring's Arianne Hartono took home the crown.

Machalova played the top position for the Rebels for all of the 2019 spring stint, earning 16 wins, including five over ranked opposition, including Ole Miss' first league victory of the season, a clinching victory over Mississippi State's No. 81 Emma Antonaki, the region's Rookie of the Year. She also took down then-No. 16 Texas A&M's Katya Townsend, ranked No. 50 in the country, in the Rebels thrilling 4-2 victory to wrap up their 2019 campaign.

The Zlin, Czech Republic native earned SEC All-Freshman and SEC Second-Team honors in 2018. Machalova is the first Ole Miss player to earn the award since 2012 (Caroline Rohde-Moe).
