Men’s Tennis Draws Illinois for 2020 ITA Kickoff

OXFORD, Miss. -- While the 2020 Ole Miss Men's Tennis spring schedule has yet to be unveiled, the Rebels can at least chisel one weekend into stone after drawing Illinois for the 2020 ITA Kick-Off Weekend on January 24-25 in Champaign.
The Rebels will face the Illini and then either Michigan or Texas Tech, the other two teams in the four-squad, single-elimination event. The winner from each of the 15 regional sites advances to the National Team Indoors, slating to be held this year in Madison at the University of Wisconsin.
The ITA Kick-Off Weekend is unique in college athletics in that each regional is determined via the Kick-Off Weekend Draft, where each team selects which regional they wish to participate in. Selections are made in order of the final 2018-2019 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
The Rebels are coming off their 26thconsecutive NCAA Championship appearance, the fifth-longest streak in the country. Ole Miss fell in the first round for just the third time in their 28 all-time appearances a month ago, and finished the season ranked No. 37 in the ITA rankings.
The Rebels return six from their 2019 roster, including upcoming senior Tim Sandkaulen, who competed in his second-straight NCAA Individual Championships in mid-May.
Ole Miss last faced Illinois in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2007, being narrowly edged out 4-3 in Athens, Ga.
