Pacheco leaving Rebel program after five seasons
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss begins its search for a new volleyball staff member, as it says farewell to associate head coach Ronaldo Pacheco, it was announced Wednesday by Rebel head coach Steven McRoberts.
"It is with a heavy heart that I move on from Ole Miss to pursue other opportunities," Pacheco said. "I am grateful for my five years in Oxford and the countless student-athletes that I was blessed to coach. Most of all, I want to thank Coach McRoberts for his friendship and leadership over the last eight years, and I will always be indebted to him for the opportunity he gave me."
Pacheco spent the first three years in Oxford as an assistant coach, before being elevated to associate head coach in January 2017. While at Ole Miss, he helped guide the Rebels to four straight winning seasons for the first time in three decades. During his five years with the Rebels, Pacheco helped Ole Miss achieve several milestones, both individually and as a team.
Prior to their arrival at Ole Miss in 2014, Pacheco served on McRoberts' staff for two seasons at Tulsa. In 2012, they guided the Golden Hurricane to a 26-10 record, C-USA regular-season and postseason championships and a NCAA Tournament appearance.
"I appreciate Ronnie's hard work, dedication and friendship over our eight years together," McRoberts said. "He has accomplished so much as a coach and a leader, and we will miss him dearly."
Pacheco helped the Rebels to four straight winning seasons for the first time in three decades. Ole Miss won 12 regular season tournament titles and set several team and individual records during his tenure. In 2017, Pacheco helped the Rebels to an historic season as they captured the NIVC Championship and equaled the most wins (22) in the rally era. In 2016, the team set a program record for most digs in a season and ranked second in the SEC in digs per set, posting their third consecutive winning record.
Pacheco's guidance helped the Rebels register consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in three decades with a 22-11 clip in 2015 and 22-10 in his first year in 2014. Ole Miss set a school record with 13 home wins in 2015, and recorded their best start in program history during his inaugural campaign with a 14-0 start in 2014.
A former professional volleyball player in Brazil and Argentina, Pacheco is a native of Campinas, Brazil and graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2012 with a degree in psychology.
