Corral, Ealy Tabbed to Preseason List for Freshman All-America Team, Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year
DALLAS – Two Rebels were named to the watch list for the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team and the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, the organization announced on Friday.
Quarterback Matt Corral and running back Jerrion Ealy were two of the 74 FBS freshmen to earn a spot on the FWAA preseason watch lists.
Corral, a redshirt freshman from Ventura, California, appeared in four games last season as a true freshman and completed 16-of-22 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns.
In just his second-career collegiate game, Corral was a perfect 10-for-10 in pass attempts vs. ULM, tallying 143 yards and two scores through the air against the Warhawks. He helped lead an Ole Miss offense that set school records in both total offense (826) and passing yards (517).
Ealy, a true freshman from Walnut Grove, Mississippi, is a heralded five-star recruit who will see action in the Rebel backfield throughout the 2019 season. A top-100 recruit by all major recruiting services, Ealy earned MVP honors at the 2019 Under Armour All-American Game after rushing for a game-record 116 yards and two touchdowns.
The four-year letterwinner at Jackson Prep was ranked the top recruit in the state of Mississippi by ESPN after rushing for 1,526 yards and 24 touchdowns during his senior season. Ealy, who won four Mississippi Association of Independent Schools state titles, finished his high school career with over 5,000 yards rushing and 84 touchdowns.
Ole Miss will open the 2019 season at Memphis on Aug. 31. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. CT and will be televised on ABC.
