Vongchaisit Tied for Second Overall After Under-Par Rounds

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Ole Miss men's golf team sits in second place after the first 36 holes of the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms Golf Club. A pair of sophomores, Sarut Vongchaisit and Jackson Suber, are in the top-10 individually.

The Rebels came out shooting a 278 (-6) behind under-par rounds from a trio of sophomores in the morning. The afternoon saw the team shoot even par, enough to stay in the top-two heading into the final round Tuesday, just four shots shy of first place Notre Dame (281-277—558). Through two rounds, Ole Miss is one of only three teams under par in the field of 14.

Ole Miss leads the field in total birdies with 41, in large part due to their scoring on the par-5s. Going 12-under on the longest holes on the course, the Rebels pace the field in par-5 scoring.

"It was great to see our guys get off to a great start and carry that momentum throughout the day," head coach Chris Malloy said. "It is always nice to have some positive momentum on a 36-hole day to get you through a long day. Our goal each tournament is to give ourselves a chance to win going into the final round. We have done just that, and now it's time to finish this off the right way. I can't wait to watch our guys accept that challenge tomorrow."

Vongchaisit is tied for second after consecutive under-par rounds, carding 11 birdies, going 68-69—137 (-5). His first round saw a string of four straight birdies on the back, while his second round included a bogey-free 4-under front nine. The sophomore is at 5-under for the tournament heading into the final round tomorrow. Vongchaisit is coming off a career-finish last week at the Badger Invitational, tying for 10th, and is on pace to have another career finish this week.

Suber joins Vongchaisit in the top-10 individually after two consistent rounds on Monday. The sophomore went 70-71—141 (-1) and has carded par or better in four of his five rounds this season so far. Suber is tied with Vongchaisit for the team lead in birdies with 11 and started off his first round with five birdies through the first 10 holes.

Jack Gnam is in the top 15 after 36 holes, tying for the Rebels' low round of the day with a first round 3-under 68. The sophomore leads the team in pars with 25.

Chip Getz is tied for 23rd overall after rounds of 73 (+2) and 71 (E) on Monday. The senior is second on the team in birdies with eight, carding four in each round.

Veeti Mahonen shot 72-73—145 (+3) in his first time in the lineup for the Rebels. The freshman is second on the team in pars with 23.

The final round is set for Tuesday morning with tee times for Ole Miss starting at 9:30 a.m.
