Warnell Named SEC Offensive, Bair Earns Back-to-Back Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. โย For the second straight week, Ole Miss Volleyball has claimed two weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference, announced by the league Monday afternoon.ย
ย
Freshman Anna Bair repeats as Freshman of the Week, while senior middle blocker Nayo Warnell has been named Offensive Player of the Week.ย
ย
The unanimous vote as the Central Arkansas Classic Tournament MVP, Warnell joined an exclusive club in Ole Miss history over the weekend, tallying her 300thcareer block. She becomes just the fourth Rebel to eclipse 300 in program rally scoring history, joining All-Americans Nakeyta Clair '15 and Regina Thomas '11, and the late Ty Laporte.ย
ย
Warnell hit for a stellar .619 efficiency on the weekend, committing just one attack error in 42 attempts across 12 sets. The Dickinson, Texas product hit above .500 for all three contests, a career-first in 105 matches. Her 13 kills against Oral Roberts was one shy of her career-best, and her 19 total blocks (over a block and a half per set) on the weekend ranks second in program history for a three-match, replacing her teammate and position partner, sophomore Aubrey Sultemeier's mark from a week ago. (Program best is 21, Nakeyta Clair 2014)
ย
The award is the second weekly honor of her career, after garnering SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2017.ย
ย
Bair becomes the first player in Ole Miss history to ever earn a weekly honor back-to-back.ย
ย
She recorded her first collegiate double-double in the Rebels' five-set thriller over Central Arkansas, posting a season-best 22 kills and 12 digs while hitting at a .280 clip. Bair tallied 40 slams on the weekend with a .248 efficiency, committing just one error in Ole Miss' victory over Little Rock. The outside hitter added seven total blocks, and nearly registered a double-double Sunday, tallying 10 kills and nine digs. She finished the tournament averaging 3.33 kills per set, and 3.79 points.ย ย
ย
Prior to last week's duo of Bair and Sultemeier, no two Rebels had ever won a league award in the same week. The four claimed by Ole Miss through three weeks this season ties for second most for a team, trailing only 2014's five.ย
