Six Rebels Selected for Team USA for USA vs. Europe Dual Meet

“The Match” Runs from Sept. 9-10 in Minsk, Belarus

INDIANAPOLIS – Six former Ole Miss track & field standouts currently on the professional circuit have been selected to represent Team USA for "The Match," a dual meet between the United States and Europe that will be held in Minsk, Belarus from September 9-10.

The five Rebels that made Team USA were: Craig Engels (men's 1500-meter), Brittney Reese (women's long jump), volunteer coach Jeneva Stevens (women's shot put), Janeah Stewart (women's hammer), Brian Williams (men's discus) and Isiah Young (men's 100-meter dash).

Engels is coming off an electrifying victory in the men's 1500-meter at the USA Outdoor Championships, holding off the reigning Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz for his first career U.S. outdoor title and his first career spot on Team USA for the IAAF World Championships.

Likewise, Reese – one of the most accomplished long jumpers in American history – recently won her 12th U.S. title and her eighth overall outdoors, and this fall will compete on her 11th World Championships team for the United States. The three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic medalist will be looking for her ninth career World Championships medal in Qatar later this month.

Volunteer coach Jeneva Stevens, a three-time NCAA Champion at Southern Illinois, will compete in the shot put after falling three inches shy of making Team USA for the World Championships back in July. In her career, Stevens has made three World Championship finals.

Janeah Stewart, the 2018 NCAA champion in the hammer, will look to put an exclamation point on what has been a strong first season in the professional ranks. Stewart ran up against the most difficult hammer final in American history in Des Moines at the USA Championships, finishing sixth overall amidst a final that saw yet another new American record.

All-American Brian Williams had a superb outing in Des Moines in the discus, punching his first career ticket for the World Championships after throwing a one-foot PR of 65.76m (215-09).

Olympian and three-time World Championships qualifier Isiah Young will run in the men's 100-meter for Team USA after making the final in the 100-meter and the semifinal of the 200-meter at the USA Championships in July.

NBC Sports Network and NBC Sports Gold will air both days of the meet live from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. CT.
