Postgame Quotes vs. Arkansas

9/8/2019 | Football

Ole Miss 31, Arkansas 17

OLE MISS HEAD COACH MATT LUKE
Opening statement:
"Haven't seen the stadium with that energy in a long, long time. I thought our staff did a great job at preparing. Rich (Rodriguez) and Mike (MacIntyre) both. I thought our players played really, really hard. They played with passion and they played with energy. I was really happy to see that. These guys have been through a lot. They continue to battle through it, to compete. And I told them we will fight through the barriers together. We will come out from underneath this cloud together. We have a long way to go to get better. I think this is definitely something good to build on."

On the difference between this week and last week:
"They looked much more comfortable. We got the ball in space to our playmakers. We still have to work on decision making and we could have put it away much sooner. I'm really proud of the way the guys kept competing and kept fighting. I'm proud of the O-Line in the second half being able to run the ball and get some first downs."

On the young players:
"Yeah, there's a bunch of young guys and probably more with Alex (Givens) out of there, inexperienced guys. I thought they fought. They fought their hearts out. I know it wasn't perfect, but I think they kept continuing to play hard and it showed the second half."

On the defensive mentality:
"They got their confidence. They played well. Their communication is so much better. Their eyes were right. And even when a play was made there was somebody right there, but we have to continue to get better."

On Matt Corral:
"I thought he did good. I thought he looked comfortable out there. I thought his competitive fire showed up. Not as many negative plays. He was able to stay on schedule and keep the running game going. Nice to see Elijah (Moore) make some plays and good to see us make some one-on-one catches."

On Elijah Moore:
"Yeah, it was a big situation. He made a huge play and scored touchdowns. And even being  sophomore, he has been a leader. Him and Braylon (Sanders), but I was really proud of him tonight making big plays."

On losing Momo Sanogo:
"You hate it for him. I got a chance to see him after the game and I really was proud of our team coming off the sidelines, it showed a lot about the team and the togetherness that we have. Like hey, we got this and we are going to do this for you. Proud of the guys, heart just goes out to MoMo."

On the upcoming week:
"We will just try to get better from here with all the young players. You think just keep stacking on top of each other and get better each week. It's not about who you play but about how you play and just try to continue to build on this win."

OLE MISS LINEBACKER LAKIA HENRY
On the team's confidence:
"It comes from our coaches our coaches make us real confident and believe in us and us as players that makes us feel good and work harder for them so I feel the coaches have a big part in that."

On the defensive improvements from last season:
"Yes sir I did, I know the defense struggled last year and I know I had to come in and help the defense right away and I feel like we are going stop the talking really slowly but we are going to stop the talking for sure."

On MoMo Sanogo:
"We have a saying next man up, I feel really bad for MoMo he is our brother I'm sad he went down but we have a good group of linebackers in the room."

On the practices leading up to the game:
"Really intense the coaches kicked it up a notch. I feel that had a sense of urgency that made us do even better this week."

OLE MISS WIDE RECEIVER ELIJAH MOORE
On how it felt to get the ball:
"It was a big blessing. We play like this all the time. When things start flowing Matt (Corral), and the line, and basically the team, that's the result we are going to get. We didn't play to our full potential and we made a lot of mistakes but we are going to clean it up and be back next week."

On what went different tonight:
"Everyone came in with a bigger plan and we came in determined and ready. We had a chip on our shoulder and we executed."

On how the offense grew:
"It's going to grow tremendously. We have a lot of talent and we have a lot of people you don't know yet, but you will by the end of the season I promise you that."

OLE MISS QUARTERBACK MATT CORRAL
On how he feels about his play:
"I said I was comfortable last week, but I was really feeling it. It was feeding off the offense and defense and our energy was contagious and that's the outcome of that."

On his first start as an SEC QB:
"My nerves and jitters were last week, and coming into this game I knew what to expect. I knew I was going to get hit and that they were going to bring pressure from what they saw last week, and they were going to do the same thing. They did not bring the pressure as much as I thought they would."

On moving the pocket:
"We had a good game plan and executed on all sides of the ball, all three fazes of the game."

On running the ball:
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If they are not going to stop us we are going to keep on doing it. We at least ran the same play at least 12 times in the third quarter. Over and over again."

ARKANSAS HEAD COACH CHAD MORRIS
Opening Statement:
"Extremely disappointed. Young men and coaches have invested deeply in this program. Thank for fans for coming out. Had a great crowd. Hard to win in the SEC on the road. It's really hard when you made the many mistakes that we made tonight. It's about a response now.

On Nick Starkel:
"I thought he threw the ball well. He had a couple of mistakes. He threw it to the right, he threw it the left. I thought he threw it well."

On the frustration:
"It's frustrating walking back in the locker room. The work, the effort, gone into this program. The staff and the players to see the disappointment in all of us right now. But I know this football program will respond."

On feeling helpless:
"There are time that happens. It's all about a response. You play a lot of young guys mistakes are going to happen. It was the right call. The mistakes are going to happen."

On the quarterback situation going forward:
"We will step back from tonight and get back in there tomorrow revaluate things and make a decision best for this football team."

On tackling:
"I think we had entirely too many missed tackles, especially out in the perimeter."

On Trey Knox:
"I thought Trey made some plays. There were a couple of opportunities I wish that he would have made. He's going to be a really good football player for us and he's going to get even better just like the rest of the guys."

On the message to the team:
"It's all about a response. A year ago this happened to us. You have to respond. Our seniors have been in this situation before to help us out. These guys are going to come in and respond and go back to work tomorrow."

On losing SEC games:
"We have got to show them. We have to keep getting better everyday. That's the only thing we can control right now. It's hard to win on the road. If you look at our record on the road winning in the SEC. It's a challenge. You can't go on the road and make the mistakes we made tonight. We going to learn from the mistakes and move forward."

On his message to the fans:
"We got a lot of young men and coaches in there, that have invested, just like our fans have in this program. There's a lot of hurt going on right now in the locker room and the coaching staff. The only thing we can do, we can either stay on the ground or we can get back up and the only way you fail in life. You have adversity if you don't get up. I promise you the young men and the coaching staff going to get back up. We will respond and we going to get better every week. These guys have invested a lot in this program and we are going to keep getting better."

ARKANSAS QUARTERBACK NICK STARKEL
On the game:
"It's disappointing to go over here and expect to play one way and then not play that way. Its hurts definitely."

On starting the second half:
"At halftime he told me when we were going out there to get warmed up and to get ready to go."

On his performance:
"We didn't get the job done so it doesn't matter how I played. I'll take throwing 10 yards and take a win over losing. That's how its been and that's how it will always be."

On the defensive touchdown:
"It definitely did because we know we are all we got when were away we come in here and they've got home field advantage so we've gotta do anything to spark each other up and the defense was there, that play right there definitely sparked us up and got us going in the right direction

On the starting job:
"We will go back and watch the film. I felt pretty good out there but obviously its Coach Morris' decision and I'm going to respect everything he chooses to do."

On the touchdown getting called back:
"It hurts. I mean one second you're celebrating then the next second someone is saying there's a flag you've gotta go back."

ARKANSAS LINEBACKER BUMPER POOL
On the game:
"I'm disappointed. I thought we did some good things but we also did some bad things. We have a lot to improve and we're gonna get bad in there tomorrow and see what we need to improve on."

On the Ole Miss offense:
"They didn't do anything we did not expect. It just comes down to execution and we have to get better at that."

On the touchdown:
"When you get big plays like that we thought we had a momentum switch and we just thought we had a chance to win the game. When you get a big play like that anything is possible."

On recovering from this game:
"We have 10 games left and we have a lot of ball to play tonight this was just one game we're gonna get in there and we're gonna step up."

On missed tackles:
"Whenever you are missing tackles its not a good thing. Obviously we're not proud of what we did tonight. There were a lot of mistakes we had to correct and we have to get in there and correct those."

On the Ole Miss offense:
"They did good. They've got good players that made plays tonight that they didn't make last week and we've just gotta focus on us and make sure we can fix those mistakes."

ARKANSAS WIDE RECEIVER TREYLON BURKS
On the game:
"I think we played alright. Ee had a couple of mistakes and kept on shooting ourselves in the foot but once we get those right I think we'll be good."

On Nick Starkel:
"I think he came out and did a great job he didn't have any momentum on the side. To come out and to just move the ball down the field was very impressive. He came out and did his job."

On the difficulty of switching quarterbacks:
"Not really we just gel together as a wide receiver core and just play our game to win."

On the uncertainty at quarterback:
"We trust Coach Morris so whatever he sees fit for the team we all stand behind that."

On the touchdown being called back:
"I was getting really hyped scream and celebrating, then I turn around and the ref is in the middle of the field but you've just gotta keep on playing and performing."
