Rebels Victorious in Home Return on Saturday
OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 6 Ole Miss rifle team took care of business and dispatched No. 14 NC State, 4666-4655, inside the Ole Miss Rifle Range on Saturday.
The Rebels bested the Wolfpack in smallbore, 2311-2298. NC State (3-6, 1-6 GARC) slightly edged Ole Miss (4-4, 2-4 GARC) in air rifle, 2357-2355, but could not overcome the early deficit. Individually, junior Abby Buesseler led the Rebels in smallbore, air rifle and aggregate (582-593-1175) in Ole Miss' first home match since Nov. 2.
Parity was on display for the Rebels during the smallbore competition. Seven shooters were separated by just seven points with a mix of counters and non-counters. Sophomore Jillian Zakrzeski went perfect in prone and junior Sophia Cuozzo also tied a career high in kneeling (193) to both score 578 points as non-scorers.
Senior Alana Kelly and freshman Claire O'Neel matched career bests in kneeling (195) and standing (193), respectively. The pair posted identical 577 totals. Sophomore Erin Walsh completed the Rebel score with a 575. Rookie Kristen Derting also fired 575 points, but Walsh fired more center shots.
Center shooting was the theme for Ole Miss in air rifle. Buesseler's strong 593 featured a match-high 45 center shots, including 17 straight. Right behind her was Zakrzeski with a solid 592, finishing on fire with 20 of the final 22 shots hitting dead center as a non-counter. The Rebel duo each tallied their second-most points of the season in the event. O'Neel (590), Derting (587) and Kelly (585) rounded out the Rebel total.

Ole Miss continues its top-level competition with a trip to Fort Worth, Texas where it will face the defending champions and No. 1 TCU. The match is slated to start at 8 a.m. CT.
