Rebel Duo Rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the NCAA in the Weight Throw

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field junior Shey Taiwo has been named the SEC Women's Co-Field of the Week, while freshman Jasmine Mitchell has been named the SEC Women's Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Rebel duo own the NCAA's top-two marks in the women's weight throw after a spectacular showing last week at Kentucky's Rod McCravy Memorial. Mitchell briefly led the NCAA on her first attempt of 22.23m (72-11.25) before Taiwo took command of the national leaderboard with her NCAA-leading 22.46m (73-08.25).

Both Rebels are helping contribute to the No. 20 national ranking given to the Ole Miss women by the USTFCCCA on Monday, a jump up 48 spots from its preseason ranking of No. 68. Ole Miss holds three of the NCAA's top-five marks in the women's weight throw this year, with junior Deborah Bulai ranking fifth at 21.84m (71-08.00).

Ole Miss heads to the Hoosier State for the Indiana Relays this weekend, held at IU's Gladstein Fieldhouse on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
