Kiffin Previews Saturday's Road Trip to Vanderbilt (3 p.m. CT, SEC Network)

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss football team will take the field for the sixth consecutive weekend on Saturday, hitting the road to take on Vanderbilt before a much-needed open week.

Meanwhile, when the Commodores step onto the playing surface Saturday, they'll be doing so for the first time in three weeks. Vandy's Week 4 game against Missouri was postponed due to positive COVID tests within the program, which led into their bye week last weekend. With the Commodores having three weeks to prepare Lane Kiffin's squad—and with only three games' worth of film for the Rebels to study, the Ole Miss head coach knows this will be a tough test for his team.

"Challenging opponent. They have not played in three weeks, not as much film as other teams on them. These guys are dangerous," Kiffin said. "They played A&M extremely well—one-score game, right there in it and shut them down a lot of the game. We're trying to get to 1-0. No matter who the opponent is, where it is, whatever—we've got to improve and play better and finish games out."

While the unorthodox situation appears to favor the Commodores, Kiffin hopes that it will actually tip the scales in the favor of his Rebels.

"I hope in general it works in our favor, obviously," Kiffin said. "Us being tempo, it's hard to simulate in practice. I'm hoping that time off helps us because we're tempo, and them not getting used to seeing it. And they don't do a lot of it on offense."

Vandy nearly opened its season with an upset win over Texas A&M. The Commodores trailed by just two, 14-12, going into the fourth quarter and ultimately fell by less than a touchdown, 17-12.That came thanks to a tremendous defensive performance that forced five Aggie fumbles, recovered three, netted one safety and limited A&M to just 372 yards of total offense.

After the near-upset, the next two contests followed a trend of their own. Both LSU and South Carolina handed Vanderbilt 41-7 losses, sending the Commodores into this weekend at 0-3. Despite the record, Kiffin is making sure his squad doesn't overlook their opponent.

"Yeah very concerned with a team that you're in the first year. You haven't been through a season with them," Kiffin said. "We talked about it so they understand every week is new. Look at our season. You've got to play. Regardless of who you play, but especially in the SEC, everybody has really good players and coaches."
