Postgame Quotes vs. MSU

MSU 84, Ole Miss 59
OLE MISS HEAD COACH YOLETT MCPHEE-MCCUIN |
"I thought that we came out nervous and anxious. I really wanted to play our best basketball after we settled down. I thought that we started to execute the game plan, as you can see. I think that maybe, I should have called a timeout in the last minute. I just thought there was no way they would go on a 10-0 run with a minute left. We just unraveled. I thought that took the air out of us and we couldn't recover. He played his whole bench. I have eight that I played. They are a great team. Credit goes to Coach (Vic Schaefer) and his program. I am looking forward to what is to come as far as the rivalry is concerned."
On the press:
"It wasn't a press. They were doing it all game. The reason you couldn't tell is because we were executing the game plan. We just anxious and went away from the game plan and tried to start doing our own thing. Usually, when our players start doing their own thing, it's a disaster."
On playing all four quarters:
"I think that they have been emptying the tank. That is what they have in their tanks. He played seven people off the bench, we played three. And the style that he plays, it's impossible to keep up. We just didn't have the bodies. I thought that all things considered, we played well again. I would like to think that I have his respect. He (Vic Schaefer) had nice things to say to me at the end of the game. He knows what is going on and where we are going. He is anticipating the rivalry to be a little more spicy in the future."
On Dominique Banks:
"I thought that offensively, she did some good things. I just thought defensively she hurt us a few times. She was never supposed to commit to the ball handler. One, because they are allowed to get an assist to the other post player. Two, because if they miss, they are going to get the offensive rebound, as we are vertically challenged. Either way, they were going to score two points, so let's put it on the guards. All-in-all, I thought our whole team did the best they could. We didn't have anything from Taylor (Smith) tonight. I think that hurt us a little bit. Just looking forward to going to the SEC Tournament and doing what is needed."
On Missouri:
"I would like to think that our players will be a little bit more confident. We scored 51 points in the second half against them. 51 points. Wrap your head around that. We scored 59 tonight. It's following the game plan. We have to follow the game plan in order to have success. I think it is hard to beat a team three times in a row, so we are going to give it our best shot. At the end of the day, I want to stay consistent and I want to see our players follow the game plan and just leave it all on the floor."
On Torri Lewis:
"I'm excited about Torri's future. She was great for the program as far as just sticking with it and not bailing like a lot of other players did. It's not like she had to stay. They were going to support her academically until she got her degree. That's how great our institution is. I asked her to stay and she wanted her legacy to be one where her son knows she finished what she started. I think that is commendable for her or any person. I thought that she played her heart out. She made a three. I thought she gave everything she had. We are always going to appreciate her. She'll always be family and we are excited about what is to come."
On the season:
"I just know where we are going. We just signed the No. 1 class in the SEC. There is no secret. We have kids in sweat suits that are excited about playing and would have made a complete difference. We're just looking forward to playing Missouri. When you're in the grind, you don't think about anything. When we were 25-4, I didn't think about it. I never even knew our record. You always think about what is next. Maybe it hasn't hit me yet."
MSU HEAD COACH VIC SCHAEFER |
"I'm really proud of my team to see how they've progressed throughout the season. Today give Ole Miss a lot of credit. I thought they played really well and really hard. Coach Yo is doing a good job with them, they're much improved from the last time we played them and you can see that when you watch film on them. Those kids really deserve a lot of credit. They'll go to Greenville and they'll give someone a hard time. They're playing really well together. I'm proud of my team, to be 25-5 and to see our young kids as the ones who gave us the spurt today there late in the second quarter. I had Aliyah (Matharu) and JaMya (Mingo-Young) on the floor with Rickea (Jackson) out there, that's three freshman out there when we went on that 14-0 run to close the half. That's our future but that's also our present which drives you nuts sometimes because you have to take the bad with the good. We got Aliyah hot today and when she gets to doing that she's hard to deal with. She's been playing well of late. Myah, ten assists and one turnover, when your point guard has that stat line in 30 minutes you'll have a chance to win every night. Being the lone Mississippi kid on our roster, I know this game meant a lot to her. The challenge is, can we get better this next week, we've got three days of practice before Friday. We're going to play someone who is playing well and will be coming off a win on Thursday."
On Aliyah Matharu…
"She's part of our rotation right now. She's worked her way into that. It's hard when you're a freshman and you're not playing, and you want to play, and you think you should be playing. You have to give Aliyah credit, she's earned her opportunities. We've got three days of competition coming up, and we could have a completely different lineup on Friday."
On Rickea Jackson…
"She still can't talk, she's got a bad throat and is still not 100 percent. Her game today reflected that a little bit, only had nine points and five rebounds. I'm not worried about her, she'll get herself back going. Aliyah picked it up today, got 24 for us, if she doesn't get that what's that number look like because who else is playing in her spot."
