The Rebels’ lone senior is a two-time honoree
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the Southeastern Conference is once again highlighting a panel of athletes for its annual Community Service Team. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004.
Ole Miss Men's Tennis veteran Tim Sandkaulen repeats his selection from a year ago, and is one of 13 athletes honored by the league on the 2020 squad, and one of four repeats on the team.
As the lone senior, Sandkaulen understands the idea of being looked upon as a leader. The Monchengladbach, Germany, product has played No. 1 singles the last two seasons, and spent the majority of both years ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Even off the court, he demonstrates a strong sense of leadership through his volunteer and efforts in community involvement around Oxford.
A member of the Rebels International Committee, Sandkaulen also plays a critical role in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In addition to helping organize and facilitate the A Hope to Dream event, where 50 in-need children in the Mississippi area receive mattresses and entire bedroom sets, he also volunteers for A Night to Shine, a special needs prom founded by the Tim Tebow Foundation.
Sandkaulen is a familiar face around the local elementary schools in Oxford, volunteering with Reading with the Rebels program in past years, and was a frequent participant this past year with the Oxford Elementary Morning Car Drop Off, opening bus and car doors and greeting students as they arrive to school.
Sandkaulen is a four-year volunteer with the Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Basket program, gathering items to distribute to local families in need during the holiday season. He has also served for the annual Trunk or Treat event, providing treats and entertainment for families in the Oxford/Lafayette area in lieu of the typing Halloween door-to-door tradition.
He has also assisted with "Groovin at Move In" event, helping new students and incoming freshmen move into their new dorms on campus before the fall semester. Sandkaulen has most recently spent time as a volunteer with Oxford Health and Rehab, encouraging residents to stay physically fit by participating in the "Sit and Be Fit" class by leading various exercises.
Sandkaulen was an All-SEC selection in both 2018 and 2019, and was the Rebels' lone selection at the NCAA Individual Championships last season. He is a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and an ITA Scholar Athlete.
