The duo becomes the 30th and 31st All-Americans in program history
TEMPE, Ariz. -- In spite of a shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced 30 All-Americans Tuesday morning, with Ole Miss Men's Tennis duo Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen among them, becoming the 30th and 31st All-Americans in program history.
Some athletes garnered recognition in both singles and doubles, and all players were determined based on the unpublished double run of ITA Singles and Doubles Rankings. They are among 13 selections from the Southeastern Conference in 2020, the most for any league.
Sandkaulen and Reynolds are one of 10 All-American pairings to be named and become the program's 12th set of All-Americans. Their recognition marks the 50th time Ole Miss has gained All-America status.
The tandem was most recently ranked No. 17 in the last published rankings run, finishing the shortened spring 7-2 and unblemished against ranked opposition, with five wins. The duo downed the then-No. 1 pair in the country, Matej Vocel and Dominik Kellovsky from Oklahoma State, 6-4 in early January.
It was the first of two consecutive Top 10 victories for the pair, next defeating then-No. 28 Princeton's sixth-ranked duo in a thrilling 7-6 (9-7) tiebreak. Sandkaulen and Reynolds also outlasted then No. 15 Trent Bryde/Tyler Zink from Georgia during the shortened conference season, 7-6 (7-3).
Zink and Bryde and Vocel and Kellovsky were both also named All-Americans Tuesday, two of the three pairs Sandkaulen and Reynolds faced to do so.
Sandkaulen, a product of Monchengladbach, Germany, and Reynolds, a Hastings, New Zealand, native, are the first Rebels to earn All-American plaudits since Gustav Hansson in 2016, and the first pairing since 2013 (Jonas Lutjen, Nik Scholtz).
