Rebel Senior Recognized for Her Presence in the Community

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss senior outfielder Kelsha Loftin has been named to the 2020 SEC Softball Community Service Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.

In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the Southeastern Conference is once again highlighting a panel of athletes for its annual Community Service Team. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004.

Loftin, a native of Mendenhall, Mississippi, has been a fixture in the Oxford/Lafayette County community since joining the Rebel softball team in the fall of 2018. Balancing a full load of classes in addition to all the responsibilities that come with being a student-athlete in the SEC, she has nonetheless made ample space in her schedule to donate time and energy to local events and organizations.

During her Rebel career Loftin has participated in Groovin' at Move In, helping Ole Miss students move into their dorm rooms prior to the start of the fall semester. The Rebel speedster has also been a frequent volunteer in Reading with the Rebels, visiting elementary classrooms in the Lafayette County/Oxford area to read to students, talk about the importance of good behavior and discuss the collegiate student-athlete experience.

A member of the 2019 M-Club Homecoming Court, Loftin also read to school children at local schools in March of 2020, serving as one of 50 Ole Miss student-athletes to volunteer during Read Across America Week. Continuing to give back to young students in the community, Loftin donated her time to the Oxford/Lafayette Morning Drop Off program, welcoming elementary students from local schools by opening car and bus doors and greeting students during morning drop off. The Mississippi native also participated in Ole Miss' Adopt-a-Basket, with the Rebel athletic department donating 60 Thanksgiving baskets in 2019 to families in need throughout the Lafayette-Oxford-University community.

On the field, the former NJCAA Player of the Year has been one of the unsung heroes on the Rebel softball team. Utilizing her lightning quick speed on the basepaths as a pinch runner, Loftin has scored 33 runs in less than two seasons in Oxford, stealing successfully on 26-of-31 attempts. Additionally, Loftin's charismatic attitude has been infectious in the Ole Miss dugout.

Loftin, who holds an associate's degree from Jones College, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Ole Miss.
