One Male and Female Winner from Each SEC School are Awarded
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tereza Janatova of women's tennis and Tim Sandkaulen of men's tennis have been named Ole Miss winners of the Brad Davis SEC Community Service Award for 2019-20, the conference announced on Thursday.
The award honors one male and female student-athlete from each of the SEC's 14 member institutions. The school award winners are nominees for the Brad Davis Community Service Leaders of the Year award, which will be announced next week. School winners each receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship and the winners of the Brad Davis Community Service Leaders of the Year each receive a $10,000 postgraduate scholarship, both provided by the SEC.
A two-time SEC Community Service Team honoree, Janatova serves as the women's tennis representative on the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and also is an officer of Rebels International. Janatova spent the shortened 2020 spring campaign rotating between No. 2 and No. 3 singles for the Rebels, and appeared in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings with doubles partner, fellow Czechian Anna Vrbenska.
The Nova Paka, Czech Republic native carries a 51-22 career record and a combined 92 wins overall. She garnered SEC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career this past spring, clinching a thrilling three-setter over then-No. 14 UCF in February, handing the Rebels their first top-15 road upset since January 2018 and snapping a five-match win streak for UCF over SEC opponents.
An ITA Scholar Athlete, Janatova graduated earlier this May with a degree in electrical engineering and a minor in business.
Sandkaulen is also a two-time SEC Community Service Team selection and has been ranked in the ITA Singles Rankings for the majority of his junior and senior seasons. He became the program's 30th All-American this past May, earning the honor with doubles partner, junior Finn Reynolds. The pair combined for a 7-2 record this spring, including a perfect 5-0 ledger against ranked opposition as they took down Oklahoma State's No. 1 ranked duo in the country in late January.
The Monchengladbach, Germany native has played No. 1 singles for the last two seasons and boasts 150 combined wins over his four-year career. He has represented the Rebels at the NCAA Individual Championships since his sophomore season and is an ITA Scholar Athlete.
Sandkaulen is majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications with a business minor, and also serves as a member of SAAC and Rebels International.
The SEC Community Service Postgraduate Scholarship is named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis. Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.
