Ole Miss Adds Kentucky, South Carolina to Revised Football Schedule

Dates for All Games Expected to be Announced in Next Two Weeks

BIRMINGHAM – The Southeastern Conference announced on Friday the two additional non-divisional opponents each school will play as part of the SEC's conference-only football schedule in 2020. Ole Miss will now face Kentucky on the road and South Carolina at home along with the eight league opponents on the original schedule.

The identification of each school's two additional non-divisional opponents follows last week's announcement of a 10-game season beginning September 26.  The SEC plans to publicly announce the dates for all games within the next two weeks as it continues to monitor developments around COVID-19.

"We made every effort to create a schedule that is as competitive as possible and builds on the existing eight Conference games that had already been scheduled for 2020," said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. "This schedule is a one-year anomaly that we have developed under unique circumstances presented by the impact of COVID-19."

Under normal circumstances, SEC schools play the other six teams in their division, two non-divisional opponents and four out-of-conference games each season.  In the newly revised schedule for 2020, each school will play four non-divisional opponents in addition to the other six teams in its division.

"It's exciting to see our league take another step toward finalizing the schedule, and I'm grateful that our players and fans will have the opportunity to experience these additional matchups with South Carolina and Kentucky along with our other eight opponents," said Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. "As planning continues toward a 2020 season, we will continue to keep the safety and well-being of all those involved at the forefront of our discussions."

Conference foes that were already on the Rebels' schedule included Florida (home) and Vanderbilt (road) from the Eastern Division and Alabama (home), Arkansas (road), Auburn (home), LSU (road), Mississippi State (home) and Texas A&M (road) from the West.

Dating back to 1944, Ole Miss boasts a 27-14-1 series edge against Kentucky (28-14-1 before vacations), including a dramatic 37-34 victory in Lexington in 2017 in the last meeting between the two schools. Overall, the Rebels have won eight of the last 11 encounters on the field, although the Wildcats have an 11-10-1 all-time record in the Bluegrass State.

Since first facing one another in 1947, Ole Miss and South Carolina have split the 16 games between the two programs as well as the six meetings in Oxford. After USC joined the SEC in 1992, the Rebels won the first four bouts, but the Gamecocks responded with three straight victories, most recently a 48-44 comeback at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in 2018.
