NFL Rebels Update: Week 1

Metcalf Shines in First Week of Action

OXFORD, Miss.  Here at OleMissSports.com, we are proud to update Rebel fans on the status of our former players who lace up their cleats on Sundays in the NFL. Ole Miss has a big presence in the league again this year, and there are currently 23 former Rebels on NFL rosters, including star second-year wide receivers A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf.
 
Rookies Myles Hartsfield and Scottie Phillips made their NFL debuts in week one, while Metcalf led the Seahawks in receiving, finishing just shy of the 100-yard mark.
 
Overall, 13 of them played in the first week of the 2020 season. Here's a rundown of how each NFL Rebel performed:
 
#11 A.J. Brown | WR | Tennessee Titans
Hauled in five catches for 39 yards in the 16-14 win over the Broncos Monday night.
 
#88 Evan Engram | TE | New York Giants
Started at tight end for the Giants, catching two passes for nine yards in the 26-16 loss to the Steelers on Monday night.
 
#38 Myles Hartsfield | CB | Carolina Panthers
Saw action on special teams in the 34-30 loss to the Raiders.
 
#98 Marquis Haynes | DE | Carolina Panthers
Played 15 snaps on defense and five on special teams in the 34-30 loss to the Raiders.
 
#28 Mike Hilton | CB | Pittsburgh Steelers
Made an impact on defense, playing 42 snaps in the 26-16 win over the Giants on Monday night. He came untouched off the edge in the fourth quarter to sack Daniel Jones for a nine-yard loss. Hilton finished the game with five tackles (three solo) and two quarterback hits.
 
#93 D.J. Jones | DT | San Francisco 49ers
Started at defensive tackle and played 48 percent of the defensive snaps. He batted down one pass at the line of scrimmage and recorded his first sack of the season in the 24-20 loss to the Cardinals.
 
#88 Dawson Knox | TE | Buffalo Bills
Recorded two catches for 26 yards in the Bills' 27-10 win over the Jets.
 
#74 Greg Little | OT | Carolina Panthers
Did not play.
 
#70 Bobby Massie | OT | Chicago Bears
Started at right tackle and played all 65 offensive snaps for the Bears in their 27-23 victory over the Lions.
 
#14 D.K. Metcalf | WR | Seattle Seahawks
Caught four passes for 95 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown reception on fourth down in the 38-25 win over the Falcons.
 
#33 A.J. Moore | S | Houston Texans
Was named a team captain prior to the start of the season. He recorded a solo tackle and defended one pass in the 34-20 loss to the Chiefs on Thursday night.
 
#49 C.J. Moore | S | Detroit Lions
Ruled out before the game with a hamstring injury.
 
#40 Scottie Phillips | RB | Houston Texans
Played on special teams in the 34-20 loss to the Chiefs on Thursday night. He was moved back down to the practice squad after the game.
 
#78 Laremy Tunsil | OT | Houston Texans
Prior to the start of the 2020 season, Tunsil landed on the NFL Top 100, where he was ranked the 66th best player in the league. He started at left tackle and played all 59 offensive snaps in the Texans' 34-20 loss to the Chiefs on Thursday night.
 
#20 Jordan Wilkins | RB | Indianapolis Colts
Played one snap on offense and 10 on special teams in the 27-20 loss to the Jaguars.
