Three Seed Ole Miss defeats Second Seed Old Dominion in ITA Kickoff Match
CHAPEL HILL N.C. – The Ole Miss Rebels won versus the Old Dominion Monarchs, 4-2 on Friday, to advance to the Chapel Hill ITA Kickoff Regional Championship on Saturday, at 12 p.m. CT.
In singles, the Rebels won four matches against the Monarchs to win the match. On Court 1, No. 39 Sabina Machalova defeated Old Dominion's No. 40 Holly Hutchinson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Also earning a straight-set victory, Tereza Janatova won 6-2, 6-2, over the Monarchs' Shahar Biran. Machalova and Janatova's victories put the Rebels ahead 2-1 in the match.
Reka Zadori claimed her first career dual victory playing No. 6 singles for the Rebels against ODU's Brooke Pilkington. After dominating the first set, 6-0, Zadori lost the second set 6-3. She then recovered and won the third, 6-3, to give Ole Miss a 3-2 lead at the time of her victory.
To clinch the match, senior Anna Vrbenska defeated Old Dominion's Alesya Yakubovich in three sets. Despite losing the first set 6-3, Vrbenska rebounded to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, and give the Rebels a 4-2 victory.
In doubles, Ole Miss won one of three matches, losing the preliminary point of the match to the Monarchs. Winning for the Rebels, 44th-ranked Janatova and Vrbenska defeated Old Dominion's Biran and Alexandra Viktorovic, 7-5.
No. 24 Alexa Bortles and Machalova fell to No. 8 Yulia Starodubtseva and Yakubovich in an 18-point tiebreaker, 7-6 (8). The match decided which program won the initial point of the contest.

The Rebels will face the winner of No. 1 UNC and Notre Dame in the Chapel Hill regional championship match tomorrow, at 12 p.m. CT.
