Women’s Tennis Falls in Kickoff Championship to No. 1 UNC

Ole Miss loses, 4-1, to Defending ITA National Indoor Champions
CHAPEL HILL N.C. – The Ole Miss Rebels finished runners-up at ITA Kickoff Weekend after falling to top-ranked North Carolina, 4-1, on Saturday. The Rebels took second place in the Chapel Hill region, while UNC now advances to the ITA National Indoor Team Championship.
Ole Miss started the match strong, winning in doubles against UNC. Oracle/ITA No. 24 Sabina Machalova and Alexa Bortles clinched the point by upsetting No. 3 Sara Daavettila and Alexa Graham, 6-4. Bortles and Machalova earned the highest-ranked victory of their careers by defeating Daavettila and Graham. As a team, Bortles and Machalova improve to 7-3 this season (1-1 in duals).
At two doubles, No. 44 Tereza Janatova and Anna Vrbenska defeated the Tar Heels' No. 45 Cameron Morra and Elizabeth Scotty, 6-3. Janatova and Vrbenska improve to 2-0 this season and are 12-3 in duals over the last two seasons.
In singles, Vrbenska was the only Rebel to win a set against North Carolina. Vrbenska's match went unfinished against No. 79 Scotty, concluding at 6-4, 3-6, 1-2.
