Victory over Tennessee Highlights Day Two of SEC Match Play

Vongchaisit Improves to 3-0 at Shoal Creek
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Ole Miss men's golf team completed two more matches at the SEC Match Play Championship in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday, splitting the pair to improve to 2-1 heading into the final day of competition.
The sixth-seeded Rebels were eliminated from the main West Bracket in their first match of the day, which was a continuation of yesterday's matchup with No. 2 seed Arkansas after its suspension on Sunday due to darkness. In their second match of the day however, the Rebels were able to bounce back in pool play against No. 3 seed Tennessee from the East Bracket, defeating the Volunteers by a score of 3-2.
Sarut Vongchaisit was the only Rebel that won both of his individual matches today, as the senior now moves to a 3-0 record individually on the week. Kye Meeks and Evan Brown also won matches for Ole Miss, both helping to clinch the team's victory over Tennessee.
"Our guys showed a lot of heart by bouncing back after a tough loss this morning," Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy said. "They beat a very good Tennessee team, and it should really give them confidence going into our final match tomorrow."
Picking up where they had left off yesterday, the Rebels started day two by concluding their match against Arkansas, a matchup that entered the day with two matches favoring Ole Miss, two favoring Arkansas, and one that was tied through eight holes. Despite the Rebels' best efforts, which included a big victory by Vongchaisit, Arkansas ultimately prevailed in a 3-1 win. Brown's match did not finish with result already determined.
Following the team's loss to Arkansas, the Rebels looked to bounce back against a difficult Tennessee team, which was seeded No. 3 in the East Bracket entering the tournament.
Within the first four holes of the rounds, both Meeks and Brown got their respective leads and never looked back, with each golfer eventually capturing their matches by scores of 5 & 3 and by 4 & 3, respectively. Meeks and Brown would only lose three holes in the entirety of each of their individual matches against Tennessee.
Holding a team lead of 2-1 over Tennessee, the Rebels needed just one more victory to seal the win over the Volunteers, and Vongchaisit delivered once again. The senior took down Tennessee's Hunter Wolcott with a score of 3 & 2 for his third individual win on the week. With Ole Miss already securing the victory, Jackson Suber's match did not need to be finished.
Heading into third and final day with a record of 2-1 on the week, Ole Miss will now take on Alabama in their final matchup at the SEC Match Play Championship, a team with a record of 2-1 on the week. The Rebels are set to tee off at 7:30 a.m. CT from Hole 1 for Tuesday's fourth and final SEC clash.
