Second Round of Stroke Play Suspended Due to Darkness

ROLAND, Ark. – The Ole Miss women's golf team opened up the inaugural Jackson T. Stephens Cup by finishing the day tied for 3rd on the team leaderboard.

The Rebels were scheduled to play 36 holes of stroke play to open day one in Roland, but play was suspended due to darkness, leaving all five golfers for the Rebels with one or more holes of round two to complete.

Following a score of 301 (+13) in their first 18 holes, a score that put the team in 4th, the Rebels were able to jump up into a tie for third with strong second round play by Julia Johnson, Natacha Host Husted and Andrea Lignell. The team currently leads the field in total birdies with 26 on the day.

"This course is brutally difficult and the fight we showed was fun to watch," associate head coach Zack Byrd said. "Bogeys and doubles will happen here and the way we fought back after some of those big numbers to finish our day was incredible. We are in great shape going into tomorrow morning's restart."

Freshman Natacha Host Husted got off to a hot start in her collegiate debut for the Rebels, logging a round one score of 73 (+1) that put her in a tie for second at the conclusion of the first round. The Copenhagen, Denmark, native also tallied a total of six birdies in her opening round.

Host Husted's second round score of 4-over has the freshman in a tie for ninth individually with five holes still left to complete. She currently ranks first in the field in total birdies (7), as well as second in the field in par-5 scoring (-3).

"Natacha was awesome in her first event with TV cameras in her face and a very difficult course," Byrd said. "I think today will give her confidence to keep rolling tomorrow. She was very much in control of her emotions and looked like a veteran out there."

Despite a slow start from Julia Johnson, the Ole Miss senior was able to battle back from a score of 75 (+3) in her opening round and put together a big second round that currently has her at 1-over through 17 holes.

Johnson, who currently sits in a tie for fifth, will look to make a push towards what would be her second individual title of the fall season in tomorrow's final day of stroke play competition. Johnson currently leads the team in par-4 scoring (+1) in the tournament and has tallied six total birdies so far in Roland.

Another Ole Miss golfer who put together a great second round of play on the day was Andrea Lignell, who started her day off shooting an opening round score of 79 (+7). Lignell was able to make adjustments for her second round and saw a drastic improvement in her second round, with the junior sitting at 1-under through 15 holes in round two.

Lignell's final three holes of round two will prove to be important ones, as the Gothenburg, Sweden, native has moved herself into the mix of contenders by sitting in a tie for 12th overall.

Junior Chiara Tamburlini and redshirt-freshman McKinley Cunningham ended their opening days in a tie with one another for 20th individually, with Tamburlini having two holes remaining in her second round and Cunningham having four.

Tamburlini, who ended her first round with a score of 75 (+3), is currently shooting a 5-over round two through 16 holes. Following an opening round of 78 (+6) for Cunningham, she currently carries a two-over round two score into day two with four more holes to work with.

Leading the way on the team leaderboard is LSU, whose 12-over team score so far has given them a 6-stroke lead over second place Arkansas.

The Rebels are set to resume their second round of play Tuesday morning starting at 8 a.m. CT. Round three of play will begin immediately following the conclusion of round two. The Golf Channel will provide coverage of tomorrow's action starting at 2 p.m. CT.
