Fiquet Wins in Singles and Mize and Karesisová Win in Doubles Semis

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ole Miss women's tennis continues to make a strong run at the ITA Southern Championships as Tiphanie Fiquet won in singles and Kelsey Mize and Ludmila Karesiová won in doubles, both in the semifinals on Monday. Both finals matches will be played at 10 a.m. CT on Tuesday.

Ole Miss Rebels will have the opportunity to raise both the ITA Southern Regional singles and doubles trophy tomorrow. Both Fiquet along with Mize and Kareisová earned three set victories on Monday after winning the first set and dropping the second set.

Fiquet remained undefeated in ITA play this fall by defeating Mississippi State's Emmanouela Antonaki 7-5, 2-6, 6-0. Fiquet, the No. 4 overall seed in the draw, upset the tournament's top seed in Antonaki. Fiquet received the No. 69 ITA Preseason Ranking and now has defeated two ITA top-25 players (No. 22 Antonaki and Georgia's No. 19 Lea Ma).

Fiquet will face LSU's Safiya Carrington in the championship match on Tuesday. Carrington, ranked No. 96, received the No. 5 seed in the event. Fiquet and Carrington were both named to the All-SEC Second Team last season.

Mize and Kareisová took the first set, 6-4, over South Alabama's Nikola Kohoutova and Luminita Tutunaru before dropping the second, 2-6. All previous matches utilized eight-game pro set scoring, however the semifinals and finals consist of standard two set scoring followed by a 10-point super tiebreak if the first two sets are split. Mize and Kareisová doubled Kohoutova and Tutunaru, 10-5, in the tiebreak to win the match and advance to the finals.

Mize and Kareisová will next face Alabama's Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser in the championship match on the Crimson Tide's home court. Hiser and Bencheikh defeated Fiquet and Sabina Machalova 8-3 in the doubles round of 16. Bencheikh and Hiser defeated No. 2 seed Antonaki and Tamara Racine in a super tiebreak in their semifinal matchup.

Fiquet will look to be the sixth Rebel to win the regional singles title, and the first since Arianne Hartono in 2017. Mize and Kareisová look to be the fourth Ole Miss team to win the regional doubles title, and the first since Machalova and Natalie Suk in 2017.
