Rebels to Square Off Against Arkansas in Match Play Wednesday for Third Place

ROLAND, Ark. – The Ole Miss women's golf team closed out the final round of stroke play at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup Tuesday, finishing tied for third on the team leaderboard after shooting a round of 289 (+1) on the day.

In what was a tightly contested battle for the No. 2 spot in the Match Play Championship, the Rebels fell just one stroke shy of South Carolina, who finished the day with a team score of 291 (+3). Ole Miss ended the tournament with the highest number of birdies in the field, sinking a total of 47 over the course of the tournament.

"We played solid as a team today," head coach Kory Henkes said. "We have been telling our team how important every shot counts today was the perfect example. We missed out by one shot to match up against LSU."

Entering the day tied for fifth, Julia Johnson came into round three of stroke play knowing she needed a flurry of birdies to catch the leaders to try to secure her fifth individual title of her career. Johnson's first nine holes did just that, with the senior tallying four birdies and having a two-under start to her round.

Despite this early push from Johnson, it wasn't quite enough to push the St. Gabriel, Louisiana, native past her competition, as Johnson went on to finish her round by shooting an even-par, 72, and finished in fourth place. Her tournament consisted of a total of 11 birdies, five of which came in round three, which was tied for first amongst all golfers in Roland on the week.

Also having a strong showing on the day was Chiara Tamburlini, who ended her third round in 13th place after logging a 73 (+1) on the day. Tamburlini's finish in 13th eclipsed her season-high finish from the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, where the junior finished tied for 14th.

Andrea Lignell put together her best round of the tournament in Tuesday's third round, tallying three birdies en route to her round of 73 (+1). Lignell ultimately went on to finish tied for 14th, her highest individual finish of the season so far.

Redshirt-freshman McKinley Cunningham continued to set new career highs for herself following a scorching third round at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup where Cunningham logged a new 18-hole career-low of 71 (-1) on the day, sinking six birdies in the process.

Cunningham would also set a new career-low 54-hole score of 227 (+11), while earning the first top-20 finish of her young career by finishing tied for 18th overall. The Clarksville, Tennessee, native ended her tournament with 10 total birdies, trailing only three golfers for the highest number of birdies over the course of the tournament.

Rounding out play for the Rebels was freshman Natacha Host Husted, who concluded her first collegiate tournament by logging a 78 (+6) in round three to ultimately finish tied for 18th alongside her teammate Cunningham.

Host Husted finished her tournament with a total of 11 birdies, tying Julia Johnson for the most amongst all golfers playing in the tournament.

Ole Miss will now face the team they tied for third on the leaderboard, Arkansas, in Wednesday's third place match play event starting at 9:20 a.m. CT. Golf Channel will be offering coverage of tomorrow's match play finals beginning at 2 p.m. CT.

"We look forward to a tough match against the No. 1 ranked team tomorrow," Henkes said. "Arkansas is a solid group of golfers who will put our game to the test and we look forward to the challenge."
