Tiphanie Fiquet Qualifies for ITF Austin Main Draw

Fiquet Wins Two Matches in Qualifying
AUSTIN, Texas – Ole Miss Rebel Tiphanie Fiquet advanced from the qualifying draw to the main draw of the ITF W25 Austin event on Tuesday.
Fiquet faced two other collegiate players in qualifying at the Texas Tennis Center on Texas' campus. Fiquet received the No. 7 seed in qualifying. She defeated Baylor's Alina Shcherbinina in the first round of qualifying on Monday, and won in straight sets versus Auburn's Ariana Arseneault on Tuesday.
The event consists of a 32-participant qualifying draw with eight qualifiers advancing to the 32-participant main draw. Fiquet is set to compete in the main draw tomorrow.
Fiquet overcame Shcherbinina in a contested three set match. After winning the first set, 6-3, she dropped the second set, 3-6, to Shcherbinina. Fiquet outlasted Shcherbinina, 10-6, in the third set tiebreak (in lieu of a full set) to advance to the final round of qualifying. Shcherbinina, a freshman at Baylor, was rated as the No. 3 singles junior player from Russia
ITA Southern Champion Fiquet defeated regional and SEC conference opponent Arseneault by winning games at crucial times. Fiquet broke Arseneault's serve tied 5-5 in the first set to take a 6-5 advantage. Fiquet held serve to win the first set, 7-5. She then jumped ahead to an early lead in the second set, and was able to win the second, 6-3, and claim the match to advance to through qualifying. Arseneault, a sophomore, competed for Georgia last season before transferring to Auburn this year. Arseneault received the No. 14 seed in the qualifying draw.
Fiquet's first round opponent in the main draw will be determined prior to matches played on Wednesday.
