Fiquet Defeats Liga Dekmeijere in Three Sets

AUSTIN, Texas – Ole Miss Rebel Tiphanie Fiquet earned her first 25K level main draw victort of the fall by winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 versus Liga Dekmeijere at the H-E-B Women's Pro Tennis Open on Wednesday.
 
Fiquet outlasted 38-year-old veteran Dekmeijere in the first round of the ITF 25K Austin tournament at the Texas Tennis Center. Fiquet defeated Dekmeijere in a lengthy three-set match lasting over two hours.
 
Fiquet took the first set, 6-3, but dropped the second set 3-6. Fiquet then dominated the third set, 6-1, to advance past Dekmeijere and reach the Round of 16. Fiquet won 81 total points in the match compared to Dekmeijere's 15. Fiquet also converted 67 percent of break point opportunities (eight for 12), including four of seven in the third and final set.
 
Dekmeijere, a Latvian native, currently ranks No. 1291 in the WTA rankings. She achieved a career-best ranking of No. 287 in 2002.
 
Fiquet will next face No. 6 seed Mirjam Bjorklund of Sweden in the Round of 16 on Thursday. Bjorklund defeated qualifier Maribella Zamarripa, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0, on Wednesday. Bjorklund currently ranks No. 252 in the WTA Singles Rankings and No. 255 in the ITF Singles Rankings.
 
Fiquet is currently tied with her career-high ITF Singles Ranking of No. 116. She is also No. 751 in the WTA rankings (career-best No. 738). Fiquet ranks No. 69 at the collegiate level in the ITA Preseason Rankings.
 
Thursday's match time will be determined prior to tomorrow's match.
