Tiphanie Fiquet Falls in ITF Austin Round of 16

Ole Miss’ Fiquet Defeated by Mirjam Bjorklund in Three Sets
AUSTIN, Texas – Rebel student-athlete Tiphanie Fiquet came up short in the Round of 16 at the H-E-B Women's Pro Tennis Open, falling in three sets to No. 6 seed Mirjam Bjorklund. Bjorklund defeated Fiquet 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday.
Fiquet fought hard in the second round of the main draw at the W25 ITF Austin event, taking a set over Bjorklund in a close to even match. Despite falling to Bjorklund, Fiquet won 94 total points, one lass that Bjorklund's 95. The highly-contest match lasted two hours and 43 minutes.
Fiquet got off to a blistering start in the match, jumping ahead 5-1 in the first set. Bjorklund won the next two games to bring the score to 5-3 in favor of Fiquet. Fiquet then held on to take the first set, 6-3. Fiquet forced 11 break-point opportunities in the opening set and was able to break Bjorklund's serve three times.
Bjorklund took control in the second set, staying ahead of Fiquet to a 5-3 lead. Fiquet then won a game on serve to bring the set to 5-4, Bjorklund, and forced Bjorklind to a break point with the potential to tie the set 5-5 and regain serve. Bjorklund fended off Fiquet's break attempt, won the set, 6-4, and forced a third and final set.
Fiquet was immediately broken to start the third set and began down in a two-game hole. After falling behind, 3-1, Fiquet rallied to trail 5-4. Bjorklund served for the match and held to take the third set, 6-4, and advance to the quarterfinals.
Service errors played a crucial role in the match as Fiquet had six double faults compared to zero for Bjorklund. Fiquet won a higher percentage of first serve points than Bjorklund (74 to 66), however, Bjorklund made 15 more first serves than Fiquet in the match (68 to 53) while both players had almost the same number of service attempts (95 for Fiquet, 94 for Bjorklund).
Fiquet will shift her focus to the ITA Fall National Championships, Nov. 4-7 in San Diego. Fiquet earned automatic qualification into the event by winning the ITA Southern Singles Championship.
